Cool Pedal Alert: EH Soul Food

Post by Blindog »

Electro Harmonix take on the infamous Klon Centaur, under a hundred bucks list. I picked mine up for like $62. Tried it out on a Deluxe Reverb reissue. Very cool, sounded like the amp but bigger and fatter. I fell in love with that setting, so I didn't crank up the gain to see what else it can do...fyi, I have never played through a Klon or a clone, so I had no expectations. I like it a lot!

cool, glad you like it! i have seen numerous (jabillions) of threads on TGP about these things, how about those boosted power rails?

i got a few of those charge pump ICs, and i have a dual gang pot, shouldnt be that hard to breadboard up and decide if its worth it to enclose it and such.

mainly i am excited about the using the charge pumps in my stompboxes, MAX1044 if anyone is interested

have you seen the hitler rant about Klons?

transparent overdrive is perfect for all types of music, from P&W to DOOM!!

That rant was hilarious! About 3 years ago, I actually bought a pc board from one of the guys at freestomboxes.org to build a Klon clone. In the meantime I relocated from OH to GA and just lost interest. You're welcome to it if you want it!

Yeah, I heard some things about the circuit, but I didn't read an TGP threads about it...I just happened to see one at my little local music store and tried it out. I bought the last one, the owner told me that EH was going to have to limit his order quantities because they were so popular.

Cheers!

I like my klon klone the MK1.

The problem with videos of this EH pedal is they play like ass with that chunk chunk crap hard to tell if the pedal is good or not.

Some of these young guitar players simply cannot play and they couldn't demo a wet diaper after a 3 day drunk fest.

I'm a recent convert to Clean Boost pedals, after acquiring a Keeley Katana and Xotic EP Boost. Both are splendid (one at a time, haven't tried cascading them ...... yet).

Will keep a look-out for an opportunity to demo some good Soul Food. Thanks for the recommendation.

My best boost pedal is a limited run Small Hadron Collider from Resonant Amps that is such a transparent pedal worth every penny I invested.

First big laff of the morning! Heh heh, "create a shortage" = put up only one at a time. When somebody buys it, tell 'em it's the last one he has and may not be able to get more due to supplier blackout. Wonder if Mike Matthews came up with that salesman rap.

All well & good until you can order the copy from "across the Pacific", $20 ea and buy as many as you want. Shipping included. Should start in a couple weeks.

Haven't seen or heard one of those yet... Kinda looks like my production pedals... Except they don't have pretty lights.

I will have to check out the soul food and see (hear) how close it is.

Those look way cool Tony. Color bases are real cool.

I've been stalking one of those soul food pedals for a while now because of their price point. I normally use clean boost or a Voodoo Sparkle for just a little added grit but these are interesting.
