RN65D's NOW AT $.51 EACH!!

Screw em. I'm going to Koa Speer. $.14 each. Must be this ROHS thing. I remember being kinda baffled by Matt's shootout on resistors anyway. Can't hurt that much.

Question: in the specs category for 1/2 watt metal films they list a value called T.C.R. at 50 or 100 same price. What's up with T.C.R.?

I think this means "Thermal Coefficient of Resistance". Probably in parts per million per degree Centigrade.

Both Fuchs and CAE got "burned" using these resistors. They are fine for signal path use, but B+ use (like plate loads) is no good. I've had the "1-watt" resistors open up at 330 volt supply, 100-V drop (approx) .4 watt dissipation. John Suhr told me "we are still changing them out 2 years later". They did about 100 amps with them before they found out. We did between 30 and 50 units.

Sound nice, quiet,small and cute looking, but they made them, $hit brown colored for a reason I suppose......

NO, I was referring to the KOA resistors mentioned at the start of the thread.

The RN-65's are great, possibly the best sounding resistors out there IMHO. The only one better is the Holco "blacks", which are amazing, but non-RoHs and no longer in production. Those are amazing.....

Well, I'm still loaded up with 100K and 221K RN65Ds. The Koa Speer I was talking about have traditional color bands. Are they turd brown beneith the bands? Anyway, I'll take you at your word. on the Rp duties. RN65ds have gone from IIRC about .21 to $51 in two years. I'm trying to lay in a stock of something a little cheaper for experimentation. I will keep in mind to run a P equation before leaving them in.

rn65 are 1watt resistors, in commercial use. that would include DIY. military, they are 1/2w.

I've just noticed that in my D'Lite, I somehow ended up with an RN65C for the 121K resistor on V2 (the other three plate resistors are RN65D's). When you look up the RN65C on Mouser's site, it's described as a 1/4 watt resistor. This data sheet http://www.vishay.com/docs/31027/cmfmil.pdf , at p. 3 near the bottom, seems to indicate that it's a 1/4 watt under certain circumstances, and 1/2 watt under other (cooler) conditions, and everybody seems to be saying that these mil-spec resistors are conservatively rated, as compared to civilian parts. Do I need to replace this before using the amp any more, or can it wait until the next time I'm making a parts order?

I just restocked the drawers with RN-65Ds. Live large that's what I always say. A couple extra bucks per amp. Oh well.
