He will find out. The Z-bots are watching! Far as I know though, no such forum exists.MarkB wrote:Dr Z contacted the Trinity Amps forum and required that they cease and desist even running a forum based on that amp. I suspect he would do the same here if/when he finds out the schematic has been posted. Some things are better left on the "down low".

Re: Carmen Ghia schematic/layout?
I'm confused! What is the dark side? Taking someone's power amp design and somebody else's EQ circuit design and calling the result an original design, as you're shipping them out the door for $1000 ea?
Or, taking the same information and building an amp for personal (or at least limited distribution) use?
The same thing goes for posers like Randall Smith at Mesa who has patents on circuitry that was pioneered years ago. IE the simul-class BS.
I know which side of the equation I'm on. If I can find the info and I wanna build it, I will!

Dr. is extremely protective. That's all I can say about that.
But has anyone ever compared the "Z" logo with Zenith's logo. I wonder if there are any issues with that?
OR even the name, which is pretty close to a certain vintage VW model sports car.
All pretty blatant I'd say, but there you have it.

Since the thread has been revived...
How about a several year late package for me too?
Thanks.

Please understand that IMO an answer to this question is of no practical relevance at all. - Max

All this drama for that are kidding me

DR.Z is one of the forum members here. If you PM him politely, I'm sure he will be happy to help with your queries. He has done so already for other stuff.

A brief comment to the protectiveness of Dr. Z................
We (us forumites) are into ampbuildin for fun - as in hobby. If amps is your living obviously you want to protect that.
Dr. Z is running a proffessional operation and paying his mortgage with the outcome of his business. No wonder he tries to protect that.
Same goes for Dr. Dumble and others.
Price calulation/ Breakdown:
An amp with a retail price tag of USD 1000 will probably give a gross income to Dr Z of roughly USD 150 of which he has to deduct general cost of his operation - leaving him with probably a 100 bucks at the end of the day.
Cost breakdown for an amp with a 1000 USD price tag.
- VAT: USD 160
- Retail profit 40-50%: USD 450
Gross profit: USD 390 to DR. Z
From the USD 390 you have to deduct material cost and laybour....probably USD 250.... Leaving you with USD 140 which must cover general costs for production plant, lightning, taxes etc.
If Dr. Z really hit jackpot with an amp design he will sell 2000 pieces world wide ....max. - do the math ...not enough to even buy a decent car.
Morale: dont go into amp business unless you are extremely optimistic.
No wonder he tries to protect his designs. Its another story with Kit amps like Bruce from Mission. His business is to sell amp kits and provide a lot of service in regards to help customers build good amps - so he has an interest in helping and sharing ideas. Not so with the smaller custom shops.
Just my 0.02
BTW I have been at the board of directors in a large European effects pedal manufactorer for a couple of years, so I have a little bit of insight into the toughness of the music equipment industry - its tough for the boutique manufactorers.
