Guys
I was gathering parts for twin EL84 Liverpool build. Got chassis and most other parts when I looked over my Edcor transformers.
The PT is a 280-0-280 version and I used it before on a couple of Rocket builds and got 366V on the EL84 plates. Is this too much for the Liverpool, as I see most use a 250-0-250 PT. Perhaps some changes to the dropping string would help.
But most of all I have a 6K6 OT that was gonna go in another build. I used an 8K in my Rockets with the 2 EL84s. It's my only OT at this time and I wanted to start this over Xmas vacation. Disadvantages of going ahead with the 6K6 OT??
Thanks.

In theory, theory is the same as practice. In practice it's different.

Re: Liverpool Transformers
That combination of PT (voltage) and OT will work, although you will be running the EL84's over the typical (300V) recommended plate voltage. That's been done before, and the 6K6 Zpri is high enough to stay out of trouble when playing. You'll likely have to increase the cathode resistor a bit to keep the idle dissipation in check.

Check out "dropping B+ voltage with Zener" to shed some volts.JoeCon wrote:Guys
