For you TAG BoBos they apparently have civet coffee, and it occurs to me for you DIY cheap-skates here maybe you could just roll some beans in the cat box instead?
I've been trying to stuff them up my cat's ass but he's causing me a lot of grief in the process. I'll try the dog.

Try Murchies in Vancouver B.C. http://www.murchies.com/store/ They have the whole selection of varietals and their #10 blend is to die for. The #11 blend is a little smokier far an evening cup.
Dan
Although they're sometimes referred to as civet "cats" the animal is not a cat. They're about the size of a cat. The civets eat whole ripe coffee "cherries" and civet-processed beans come out the other end. OTOH they have some excretion that is sought by the perfume industry as a "fixative." Not that it smells good by itself. Whale ambergris (barf) serves a similar function.
Oh what's that? My, oh yes honey, you smell TERRIFIC!

Murchies of Vancouver, why yes they do have memorably good tea. Had some to kick off a long difficult day on press tour 1994, at le Beeg Fancy Hotel. So good I grabbed the rest of what they left in the room & took it home. Well above average = recommended!
Ok, so the new coffee maker we got in October died the death in early November. We put the old one back in service after two good cleanings with white vinegar, but it still had the 10 cup limitation.
Fast forward to last Sunday...shopping at Costco and sure enough, there's a deal for $149 on the Keurig including 80 coffee modules included.
Had it for five days. It totally rules. Yeah, it's 40 cents a cup, when you buy smart, but there are lots of coffee options.
And the other bonus is the short brew time, under a minute. One cup at a time goodness.
Glad my wife is paying for the coffee modules. Newman's Own Special Blend is killer.
That is all.

Jim,
You'll love it. Here at work we have a Nespresso machine. We go through about 500 pods every month... There are not too many of us engineers either that drink it! I sure do...
Whatever you get - for the flavor to be "quality" - you have to keep the innards clean plus use good water. I make my own distilled water and that helps keep the coffee & tea tasting good. If you have crappy tap water, whatever you do, coffee tea or homebrew beer etc will never come out right.
You know those pods were invented to suck money out of people? It's like processed food, it allows for lower quality at a higher price to be obscured by convenience. What's in the pods? How long's it been in there? Support your local roaster, buy freshly roasted beans, no more than you need for 2 weeks, buy a $20 grinder and grind it when you make it. There you go, better coffee in your mouth and stomach, more money in your wallet, and the finger to the evil corporations. Oh yeah, and a simple process that used to produce minimal waste now will add zillions of plastic pods to the planet's trash as these coffee systems take over the world. BTW here in the land that perfected coffee these f'ing pods are pushed 24/7 on TV and are taking over. Fight the power, they are even coming after our coffee.
Bags of Starbucks are $26.40/kg of coffee at the local grocery. 0.42oz K-cups of Starbucks are $79.30/kg (18 pod sampler on Amazon)... 3x!
What kind of engineers do you have working there, John? In my office we have a Keurig plus a three-warmer commercial brewer that has decaf, regular, and double-strength going at all times! Takes less than one minute to reload the thing and hit "brew."
Martin, We have around 15 -20 engineers give or take a few firings (I mean re assignment), a mix of electrical / mechanical / software / management. Most of the guys drink the swill out of the industrial carafe brewing thing that has the most god awful "renting / distributor" supplied coffee.
I still swear by the one-cup-at-a-time filter paper funnel method. Less is more. Kinda like a Fender Champ!
Fresh ground beans are a must for the best flavor and aroma.
I agree about the water, Leo, I tried using rain water for a while, and thought I could tell a difference, but not enough to bother with. About the same as the small difference between tone caps.
We have excellent water here(well) it has a lot of calcium in it though and have to clean the maker often.
Perhaps I should try some snow. I saw some that was lemon flavored might be good

Right on brother!
Instant coffee is instant coffee, I don't care how expensive you make it.
Make it real, make it now.
Coffee is life.
