Audition tonight

Post by M Fowler »

Since my audition tonight is in an apartment and they want to hear if I can play lead guitar, so I'm thinking my Express should do just fine.

The apartment neighbors should really appreciate that huh. :)

I built an airbrake but don't use it. I plan to get an unleashed unit one of these days.

I'll just bring my Deluxe I put MV in that 5E3 and my Zendrive that should get me about anything I need.

My drummer and other guitar player both had Harley accidents so we haven't played for a while so I decided to answer an add looking for variety band lead guitar player, that's got my name written all over it. I'm sure personality will be the key factor at this audition.

Thanks Tom.

Hey Mark,
You still got the 80w version you built?
Might be just the ticket.
Hand out bicycle clips for their bell bottoms before you flick the standby.
HeHe.
And have fun.

Bob, I converted that Express into an 80w Rocket with reverb and pair of KT88 instead of 4 EL34's.

I'll be kind and bring something tame this time.

Almost time to go, see ya.

Too late for suggesting a pair of 6V6 for the Express. Probably wouldn't matter. 20W or 50W, still f---ing loud in an apartment. Maybe it's an apartment complex with a rec room where you can, turn it up! Hope you pass the audition! Stay off the Harley.

What a joke and waste of time, oh well got me out of the house.

This guitar player was a nut case, pacing, cussing, and telling an old lady what to do constantly. Walking into the apartment was comical. Rows of old VHS movies lined every wall from floor to ceiling.

I spent 1 hour listening to this idiot tune his newly acquired Ibanez POS guitar playing through a SS POS amp. Completely out of tune the whole hour. He was probably good 20 years ago but he is definitely not firing on all cylinders right now. God his guitar and amp sounded just terrible.

I liked the bass player so I'll offer him to join up with my bandmates and get my old band rolling again.

That's kinda what I was picturing in my mind when you said the audition was in an apartment. Those vhs tapes are gonna be worth a lot of money someday

Craigslist.

But be prepared to meet lots of flakes like the one Mark described. Always have the initial meeting in a neutral, public place (like a Starbucks or equivalent). Talk and size up the prospects and whether there is good potential. Get references and check them out. If the folks seem legit, then schedule a jam to see if the music gels. Gotta be careful because there are some nefarious types out there looking to rip people off. And there are a lot of posers, wannabees, and kids that are no-way ready to work in a band.

An even better method is to get referrals from local music store owners. They usually know who's looking for players and, once you are bona fide with them, can help with introductions and recommendations.

Local musicians facebook, music store, word of mouth and craigslist.

Initial phone contact provided reference that I knew of their previous bands and other musicians but 20 years has put a hurt on this one guy, sad really because he was good back in the day.

Nothing like a little face to face jam session to bring out bad shit. :)
I know I've gotten worse with my arthritis but this guy really sucked.
This fucking guitar is out of tune is yours in tune and how did you tune yours. I replied with the tuner clamped on the my head stock
