You're doing what I was @ 10-12 years ago. And people were sending me pounds of good beans from all over the place, just to feed my habit. J.Martinez in Atlanta was a top pick, also Hawaiian and many others. 5-6 pots of coffee a day, holey smokes. Now I'm down to 2 mugs in the morning.

Well Heisenberg don't forget to wear your hat! Which reminds me of an Elwood Smith cartoon titled "Where's Your Hat?" I couldn't find it but I did find Elwood's website. He's a musician besides his regular illustrator work, and on occasion a customer here. Y'all should be aware, in case you need an album cover or something. Just like all of us, Elwood needs work!

Have a couple too many coffees everybody, and feast your eyes! Hats, bugs, dogs, whatever, Elwood's the man, at your service!

I was making Americanos.
Are you making real Americanos (Americani?)? That would be a double espresso served with a little pitcher of hot water to dilute it. Yuck, but you are starting to see it a lot here. Wonder why they call it an Amerciano, no one in the US drinks coffee made like that, maybe cause it’s rude and crude?
I picked the wrong week to stop sniffling glue.
It’s never the wrong week.

I was thinking of getting my own Civet. Make washing the poop, roasting and grinding a family activity. Anyone know if they are endangered? As that would make it even better.

I used to drink coffee - if I was conscious I had a cup in my hand, and not one them wimpy little dinks, a CUP. But had to give up - ruining all kinds of stuff in there. Now I have my tea, but caf. Don't feel like dieing just yet. Oh I get a cup now and again, but like some here it Must be fresh ground and the best beans I can find. Half & half at least, if I can't get something better. I do miss the red brew, though, and that aroma... man.

Btw, Tom - the Jim Wieder project is Way Awesome! Thank you much for posting the link.

Well the new Cuisinart took a dump five weeks into ownership. After only 20 pots of coffee the "CLEAN" light started to blink.

We found that odd...since we were gone for 10 days that didn't leave much time for it to go bad.

We cleaned it last night. Twice. Started a pot this morning...it took 45 minutes to brew four cups.

Good thing we didn't throw out the old one yet. Back to Costco with this defective one. Sigh.

Sorry to hear that Jim.
We have been using ours two times a day for over a year.

The only thing that has gone wrong is me breaking the carafe.

Good thing about Costco, they are good about returns.

I think you got a defective unit, try another one.

Jim, a lot of the Cuisinarts have that little "filter on a stick" in the water chamber / reservoir. Remove it completely and give it a try....

Yep, we just replaced our water filter, it was pretty gross looking.

I've been grinding beans for about 17 years now. A Braun $20 grinder has done the job daily all those years.
Best beans I've found are Black Silk Expresso from Equal Exchange.
Coffee is my incentive for jumping outta bed at 5am. Love it!
Americanos on the weekend, 'cause I have extra time to make it.

These guys have been roasting varietal coffees long before it became a BoBo fetish. I hate to hype good things as then they just get over-run and jaded and crappy, but it's too late to save anything in NYC now anyway:

http://www.portorico.com/store/

If you're looking for something much cheaper but as good as (real) Blue Mountain or (real) Kona try Porto Rican Yauco Selecto. Oddly didn't show up on their site but it was always in the store, maybe they keep it for walk-ins?

For you TAG BoBos they apparently have civet coffee, and it occurs to me for you DIY cheap-skates here maybe you could just roll some beans in the cat box instead?

BTW their loose teas are best I've ever come across, one of the things I miss most about NYC, I think high turn over and fresh stock have a lot to do w/ it.

I've been trying to stuff them up my cat's ass but he's causing me a lot of grief in the process. I'll try the dog.

Try Murchies in Vancouver B.C. http://www.murchies.com/store/ They have the whole selection of varietals and their #10 blend is to die for. The #11 blend is a little smokier far an evening cup.

I'm thinking if you start them as a kitten or puppy and get them used to it...

Hand "fed" babies.. works for birds, sort of.

As hard as you might try you really can't evolve anything except an idea. Still fun to try I guess. Submarine cats. Don't get me started. I still think it can work but you should use a fixture or tongs to start with because lineman's gloves are not thick enough.
