I have a one-man puppet show I'll sell you for $30. Has the set and all three characters. You can't use it in front of kids. That third character "'Neaky 'Nake" gets you into trouble.

Besides Agent Orange...vibratoking wrote:OMFG...spraying poison on the roads instead of paving...that's genius. I guess it cured the dust problem. Seriously...is anyone really that stupid? Evidently, yes.
Anybody remember Phisohex? It started in the 50's as a pre-op surgical washup soap and was remarkable for wiping out allsorts of infection germs. The magic ingredient was hexachlorophene. By the early 70's "personal care" companies were putting it in everything from toothpaste to hair tonic to foot powder to feminine hygiene products. Then it suddenly left the market...
Seems nobody could make hexachlorophene without having an industrial accident. Anybody looking for a hair-raising read, a rare book "The Super Poison" details events in Seveso Italy just north of Milan, starting 10 July 1976. Workers "thought" they shut down the reactor making hexachlorophene on Friday so they could leave for the weekend by the closing bell, but it blew up on Saturday, unattended, and splattered the town & highway with nice fresh dioxin mm-mm goood. Then the local officials & plant owners passed the buck, you know, the way they will in Italy or anywhere else. Good read if you can find a copy.
So they were also making that stuff in Times Beach, Sheffield England & a couple other places around the world. Also in Clifton NJ just a couple miles from my house - doubtless I got to breathe fumes from that plant as a kid. But no matter, it's New Jersey, lots of dodgy chemical plants. Also Astron was making capacitors in East Newark and I'm sure I got a whiff of that too. Hasn't affected me at all. Don't mind the sparks coming out of my ears...
What next? A knish shortage? Oi GEVALT! What's this world coming to?

I love the smell of phisohex. I wondered where that stuff went. Antihistamine in that sweet green syrup too. Big swig and a phisohex bath will put a 4 year old right to sleep.

Phisohex, and Phisoderm.
I remember both.

Killed a bunch of horses too. BOOOO! Deserves 100 years in horse prison just for that.cbass wrote:It was a single guy is that poisened the town .he was supposed to spraying oil.bad enough.then he got a contract to dispose of toxic waste.and got the bright idea to mix it in with the oil.

And the company that provided the poison, got the contract for disposing of the contaminated soil. Ain't America great? I guess companies like Enron, Lucent, banksters & insurance all noticed, and made it part of their business model. Letely, it seems to be working. Cause a problem, then get paid big bucks to fix it. "The new paradigm." Win by losing.

Yep, they used to oil all the gravel roads around here in the 60's and 70's.
Not sure when the tree hugger's got them to quit but if they used the right stuff, it would turn into asphalt after traffic has rolled on it long enough.
The trouble is they would use waste oil to do it and a lot of it contained PCB's and other toxins.
They still do a version of it where they lay down some kind of tar and then spread 1/4 minus gravel on it.
Is that Macadam?

That place is proly pretty clean, Mercury would all be in the bottom of Almanor, or down to Sacramento by now. With it being a Chinese camp I'd be more worried about the Osage Orange and Tree of Heaven, that must be what the goats are for.
They're asking to much for 12 acres and a bunch of termite dust. Unless you look like the people in the photos and are related to them, you will forever be an outsider in a place like that, especially if you've had any schoolin.

Re: Buy a Ghost Town for $225K
True.
I remember a friend that bought a nice log home out in the country.
He was miserable at first because nobody would even wave to him because he was an outsider.
He didn't have much more than a 1/2 acre so he wasn't working the land.
The surrounding farms had been in the same families for over 100 years.
Most people don't realize that even out in the sticks there is a definite clique.
It took about four years before any of them would give him the time of day.

I just bought it. Don't call me, I'll call you. Anybody who shows up without hair on his face is dead.
