These types of things confuse me a bit. If the building gets saved, what will it become? A museum? Surely they won't start making amps there?
If anyone wants to be depressed, check this town out. 90% of the people there would starve if they cancelled food stamps.

Dang! If it's that bad, somebody should set up amp manufacturing, give China some competition.eddie25 wrote: 90% of the people there would starve if they cancelled food stamps.
Heard similar commentary recently about many counties in Kentucky, a state so well served by their senators.

It might even be worse, I'm not joking. And if anyone didn't know Cairo is in the southern tip of Illinois. The Illinois state gov couldn't give a crap what goes on that far south. Geographically is should be a boom town, with it's excellent river access... Karma is a bitch (this town was legendarily racist).Leo_Gnardo wrote:Dang! IIRC Cairo got a lot of mention in Mark Twain's Huck Finn - can't recall if it was the place to buy/sell slaves or the place to get away from that, being theoretically North. Though all that doesn't/shouldn't have much to do with amp building. Boom town - maybe 150 years ago. Since then, town went boom. Population topped out @ 15,000 in 1920. Now only 2440. Anyone wo wants to can read all about it in Wiki. Best thing to do for the amp "museum" is make sure it doesn't get flooded. Put it up on stilts or move outta town to dry land.eddie25 wrote:It might even be worse, I'm not joking. And if anyone didn't know Cairo is in the southern tip of Illinois. Checked again this morning. One lonely dollar...$28,761 to go. $28,762 seems like an odd and somewhat precise goal. I guess they're frugal over there in Cairo, so they raise money to the dollar. If there were cents included, then I'd start to believe this was real. Do most people there wear turbans?

Sack cloth all right Miles - good guess!vibratoking wrote:$28,762 seems like an odd and somewhat precise goal. I guess they're frugal over there in Cairo, so they raise money to the dollar.
Sandbags, at half a buck per. Enough to (hopefully) keep floodwaters out of the Echosonic museum. It's that, or do what Hendrix asked Eddie Kramer for, "make me sound underwater." Somethin' about a mermaid.

Haven't heard from him in a while. He's probably somewhere in Egypt trying to figure out how to get all that sand from Cairo to Cairo with an Arduino and some digital pots.Where is Lefty?

Re: Please save the home of the first Echosonic Amp Cairo IL
Good question. He had to move lock stock barrel @ more besides by end of September. 5 weeks later, not a peep. I did ping him @ Sept 25 here & got a reply, of course he was busy busy busy packing. Time to ping again & I'm sure we'll get some interesting stories. Now what about that lousy ex landlord of his, hm, maybe he's pounding sand into 50 cent bags in one Cairo or another, that summabee.Reeltarded wrote:Where is Lefty?
So Miles do you want to ping him or shall I. Worst that could happen is radio silence. He's a good guy. I'm sure he's OK. Just 200% busy getting set up again in new digs.

Funny he's on my facebook but I don't want to see what Mark Fowler has posted on my wall lately. Probably drunk old timey lady memes.
