Very instramental pioneer in the music biz.

I was not a huge fan but I do realize his influence on the culture.

Had a friend who spent some time hanging with the Velvet Underground in the 70s. She was not a drug user herself, but contracted Hep C from, well, you know.
As it does, it eventually turned to liver cancer, and she died, because she could not qualify for a transplant, and she could not afford a private transplant.
It was a long, slow, agonizing decline.
Evidently Lou had the same issue, but was able to afford a transplant procedure, and then had bad reactions to the operation and replacement organ.
By the time he had it done, he can't have been very strong.
Not a nice way to go, any way you slice it. Very very painful.
