After swapping out that original V1 tube that was microphonic, and putting one of your others in there that you tested, are you saying that you're still having noise problems? Or are you just concerned that any tube that you put in V1 will eventually go microphonic?
The TB channel does have a bit more gain, so any tubes that are on the edge of going microphonic will be more prone to do so in that position... but I'll have to look up exactly how the "Hot/Cool" switch functions in the amp...
Out of curiosity, what brand are you running for power tubes, and what year was the amp made?

Not sure when the amp was made. Serial # 000555.

When I go to top boost and hot, the amp goes on the verge of being unstable. Isnt V2 the top boost tube? The hot/cool mode on the TB channel only works on the TB channel but what is weird is that if you just have the amp on or using the normal channel the amp gets really noisy. Please look into what the hot/cool switch does. I would like to know.

Also, I want to see what I can do about the bright switch on the normal channel and the tone cut. I would like the normal channel to be brighter. And I would like the cut knob to allow more high end through when its turned all the way down. What can be done here?

Here is a clip of the HW vs the cc2x.

Found this:

just taking a quick glance at it, i don't see many differences at all (comparing to the handwired tv). the cool/hot switch lifts the tone stack from ground; 30/15 switch switches a 150r 5w resistor w/ the 47r cathode resistor; grid stoppers on output 3k3, screen grid 470r; v1 a and b share the same cathode resistor/bypass.

Not me I didn't even know about them. :)

But the more AC30's out in the world a better place it will be, great tone machine.

What can I do to brighten this up? I need a wider range on the cut control. Also would like dome of that low mid punch of the z wreck.

I'm greedy...

Hi Masco,
When I was lurking on all the amp BB's, looking to see what guys who own vintage AC30's recommended for great "new" AC30 builds, the JMJ-30 was the amp spoken most highly of...
They rarely come up for sale, and when they do, they're usually more $$$ than direct from you...last one I saw was $2150.00.
I would have bought it, but just had to dump $3400.00 into a new chimney liner... :x

Seriously, excellent workmanship...
I'm amazed that the one up for sale now hasn't been scooped up already...

I am going to put a bright cap on the normal channel volume pot. What value should I use to start off? I dont have any caps here so I am going to have to order a couple values. Not sure where to start. 68pf and 100pf silver mica?
