To answer your question posted before things got sideways... (I'm missed it apparently)

Yes if your amp was totally stable before BUT was so calm that you could put all the knobs near 1/2 with unmuted strings at 10' your amp wasn't right to begin with. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but I do know these amps having owned a couple originals since the late 80s.

I suspect a loose connection caused the gain to be squirely, and may still need to be traced and fixed to keep the amp consistent.

Ok. I'll totally laugh my ass off now.

-lmfao-

That rocked TD.

I can't sit in front of an AC30 dimed without feedback. I am of the "your amp was suck and now it blows" crowd.

Go, Coltrane.

I know my comments might have been taken a little harsh, but I don't think I was out of line. Hmmm...? Still it really sounds like his amp was actually broken when he though it was doing fine, and then it kicked into high gain (ala normal for these) mode and surprised him. Basically it sounded like he simply had a loose connection somewhere.

Crap I must be sleeping on the job. I didn't see this until the OP emailed me a request to delete his account.

Did someone say Garlin or Gary Moore (of Moore Amplification) 3x or something. This quote is total Gary Moore
...I have a degree in electrical engineering and have worked as a systems engineer for over 30 years on classified systems you couldn't even comprehend.

Wow! You step away for a few hours and you miss the fireworks.

But if the OP wasn't just posing, it sounds like an amp with a cold joint that spontaneously fixed itself. The complaints were all stuff it's sposed to do. Which everybody said.

Wow.

This is the interesting part:
bluesky wrote:Hmmmm. I just plugged into my Weber 5F6A clone. One humbucker equipped guitar followed by one Fender SCN equipped guitar. It is behaving EXACTLY the same as my Weber Java/Express. That amp has not been opened in months and has NEVER exhibited that sort of behavior in over 2 years. The humbucker feeds back louder and faster than the SCN, just like with my Express clone.

'Splain that one please.
There is something very odd going on in whatever part of the universe this guy lives in.

Hello to this funny thread,

I tested this morning my daughters a bit modyfied Rocket clone (0,68µF at 1st stage and switchable 10µF at second.
All knobs 12 o`clock - perfect. When I got close to approximatly 60 cm to change settings I had feedback (your howling?) like hell.

And I was happy, because I heard the amp works fine!

Yust my 2 cent :D

This guy posted the same question on the TGP forum, with the same results. Thread now deleted.

ABSOLUTELY NOT, Glenn. Don't give that another thought. Some people just like to melt down publicly.

I've been watching this thread since the first couple posts. Had a feeling all the BS (BlueSky) would lead to this. Turned out even better than I could've imagined. "I've worked on classified systems you couldn't even comprehend!".

And Glenn, I don't think you were anywhere near harsh. Like GKT said, some people just prefer internet meltdowns... Old Billy boy, anyone? They do make wonderful entertainment. :)
