Re: First Express Build
Update: began gluing up my cab today. Laser engraver came into our shop here at the museum - looking forward to learning how to use it!
Also, used leftover parts from my Marshall build to populate what I could. All the rest of my small parts are on there way (tubes and more, mouser, allied elec) Decided to use Mallory 150 series caps, not going for a dead ringer and ive heard good things about the mallorys. To some, this might be seen as spreading a build out painfully slow, but I enjoy doing it one. step. at. a. time. Its like my zen thing lol.

Really looking forward to following this project. I am new to this and getting to watch it unfold is pretty exciting. Love the cab you are making for it.

Update: Almost done, just lacking tubes and iron. Looks pretty good with those fender knobs!

Re: First Express Build
Very sharp looking! Love that wood!
Re: First Express Build
I'll second that: Super Sharp build. Cabinet alone is "Fab!"
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
In theory, theory is the same as practice. In practice it's different.
Re: First Express Build
Very, very nice !!! Particularly the cab...
But - how do you assemble this - just glueing the mitered corners??? Which glue do you use??
A stright 45 deg miter is more or less end grain, - and glueing end grain is usually not concidered a very strong joint.. ??

Re: First Express Build
I use a cheap biscuit cutter from Harbor Freight plus wood glue and your good to go.
Re: First Express Build
Hi,
perfect cab work. Beautiful.
What are finish nails?
I used this elyptic flat studs for my 45 degree corners.
Love this kind of joints.

Re: First Express Build
Wow! Great looking cab, Hans! What kind of wood is that? Also, I'm not familiar with elyptic flat studs. Could you elaborate?
Re: First Express Build
Thank you,
it`s Bubinga with shellack finish. My first shellack work, so it meets not my expections. But enough. I was not persistant enough to make the surface so fine as needed for shellack. Bubinga is a heavy and rough wood and splits easily.
you make a trench with a special machine on both sides and glue it in.
Its perfect, because you don`t need to set the trench perfect in lenght. So you can allways make corrections.
looks like this:
Best

Edit: but my cab became a bit too high. But for me it`s no problem
