Komet Switches

Post by Blackburn »

I dig these brown switches in the Komet amps and I'm wondering who the maker is and where to find them. It's probably been discussed before, but a quick search didn't turn up anything.

I notice most of these switches are rated appropriately for AC, but the DC rating is only 30v. Weird. :?

Hehehe I owe it all to years on TAG with the best amp builders and techs.

It didn't hurt to have friends like colossal either he is an expert on quality components especially NKK switches. Also, after all the amps I've built I have learned a thing or two, but this dumb shit is still has a lot to learn.

I'm currently sourcing parts for a concorde build. I successfully built an Express, but I'm still new to this and don't necessarily understand what I am doing, rather following instructions.

That said, these links show toggles that are ON-NONE-ON. To me that sounds like a 3-way where the center is off. Please clarify this for me because I have a couple in my cart right now, but I would rather not check out until I am sure.

Also, can you point me to the proper switch for the fast/gradual? I also have an antique electronics cart going and I threw in a Carling SPDT for that. Only thing is that there is no data sheet like Mouser and I'm not sure what the minimum rating would need to be.

One last quick off-topic. The diagram shows a 130V MOV. I have a 150V already. Would this suffice?

Thank you!

For regular on-off power switch I mostly use switches that have four solder lugs but in this Komet amp it uses a switch with six solder lugs. The top two are (on middle two lugs) center lugs none and (bottom two lugs are on): on-none-on

I connect my power into the center two lugs and for tubes up chassis operation, when the toggle bat is up=power on the bottom two lugs or opposite lugs from the direction the bat is the on position.

BOM calls for Mountain Toggle Switch DPST Mouser Part #103-0016-EVX but that is not the correct looking switch though.

Allied part # should be correct switch to use 70192212 S332 DPDT On-None-On

I would use Mouser data sheet use the S332 DPDT on-none-on http://www.mouser.com/ds/2/295/stoggles ... -10434.pdf

Miniature switch SPDT on-on Mountain Mouser Part #:10TC330

the mini fast/gradual switch has alot of DC voltage over it - not a good thing. I moved the coupling cap prior to the switch so that it has no DC voltage across it. I'm using a 3.3nf for the fast setting and 15nf for the gradual setting

Thanks for the replies!

Roe, could you explain what you mean by "moved the coupling caps"? I assume that means that you change the values, but I'm not sure. Also, are you referring to the .022 uf caps?

What tonal changes did this make to the amp? I've had a couple Concordes and I want to keep this one close to the original

Mr Fowler, that exact mini toggle is not available. Can I use any of the mini SPDT ON-ON toggles rated at 125V?

Use the mini switch you have. Yes there is DC on the switch and it is noisey but how often does one switch this I don't.

I leave my switch engaged so I get the most gain. If a guy wanted to use that switch often then you would go with the foot switch unit Dana Hall sells for that purpose. I haven't installed mine yet.

Thanks. I ordered the Carling and a couple different brands from Mouser. That site confuses the hell out of me. They will list 10 switches with slightly different item #s and I can figure out what the differences are.

This should be fun. I'm using the layouts that you sent me a few months ago of the K60 and I have gut shots from a KF50. I started drilling the boards today and I'll stake the eyelets tonight. It's on!

basically the .1uf after the mini switch is replaced by two caps prior to the switch.
