Re: Effect Pedal building
Anyone built the GuitarPCB.com MKC1 effect pedal?
Re: Effect Pedal building
I built the MCK V2 a Klon Centaur type pedal and it looks lovely but doesn't work. I'm done building these fricking small ass pedals I suck at them.
Re: Effect Pedal building
Try fitting a preamp and a 9V battery in a Strat without any cutting. Makes a stomp box look downright spacious.

Re: Effect Pedal building
I had a setup like that in my strat... Battery was on its edge right next to the selector switch. Routed in a battery cavity because it was a pain to change it. Much better now.sepulchre wrote:Try fitting a preamp and a 9V battery in a Strat without any cutting. Makes a stomp box look downright spacious.
Mark, how close is the MCK V2 to the schematic I posted here?:

Cool trick for batteries in strats: if you take the battery boot out and invert it so that it sits on top of the guitar rather than sunken down into the guitar, you can now put a 9V battery in the hole below it.

Only slight component value differences from what I can tell. The schematic I have didn't have the values so I had to go back to build data and fill that in so I could compare.dorrisant wrote:I had a setup like that in my strat... Re: Effect Pedal building
I did find this, although through the website it was not labled as MCK V2, I think its the right one. A quick look at it tells me it is true bypass and it looks very similar. The original has a buffered bypass that is actually very nice.
Mark, if you want, I could help get it working for you. Maybe send it to me? I have built a bunch of Klons latley so its not to much of a stretch to figure this one out. Klons are awesome! I recommend them over any other OD for the versatility.

Re: Effect Pedal building
Tony, in that Klon schematic are P1a & P1b a ganged pot?
Lou: neat trick! I'm sure it would beat trying to cram it in next to the selector like I did.

Re: Effect Pedal building
Yes sir, it is a ganged pot. In the MCK approach they are using the same thing with a trim as an option for the clean boost side. I like the idea, or maybe change that control to an additional pot. Works great as is. The last guy I built for said he would trade his wife for one if it were lost or stolen. I don't know about that but I can hardly keep one around here. It's like I either take the money or they will steal it...sepulchre wrote:Tony, in that Klon schematic are P1a & P1b a ganged pot?
I have to say that the MCK doesn't have the charge pump in the power circuit. I would think they will sound a bit dull compared to the schem I posted above. I will get to test Mark's against a clone I have here. I have added the charge pump to other pedals and really like the difference. I might throw one of my little boards in Mark's pedal and put it on a switch... Have to see if there is any room.
The standard Klon sounds wonderful with the gain turned all the way down. Great clean tone! When I turn up the gain it makes most amps turn out Voxish tones. I run this thing into my Rockster with all the contols at noon. With the dual-pot gain set at about 1-2 o'clock it has a velvety feedback that seems to be so easy to control... Just linger on a note and think about feedback and there it comes... So sweet!!!
All kinds of usefulness in this box for sure!

Re: Effect Pedal building
Hmm. I haven't built a box in years, and have had a kind of "anti-box" attitude (all the tone should come from the amp, etc.). But the Klon sounds like it mat be an exception to that rule. Perhaps I'll give one a shot while I wait on the next amp build.
Thanks for the post of the schematic. Do you make PCBs for them? Are there templates to be had? Or are they just wired up (like I've done most of mine)?

Take a look at this:

This was what I used for the first one I built. I use a board that I designed since then. I love the Madbean site for pedals that itI want to try. I also like the Glitterraattii - an Xotic BB Preamp clone:

I hope those links work!

Re: Effect Pedal building
The only board I see that's close is called Kingslayer and is shown to be compared to "NotAKlon". So is it a Klon clone? They're sold out right now but say they'll have them on the 16th.
Thanks, Tony. Must be box building time!
