Any kid playing metal would have too shit his pants for a 50 watt handwired hi-gain custom tube amp, id think el34 would be best if not stick some 6l6 in there, 2203 should do it. mark

I had both and they are not, IMO the dual rec is a better amp :)
Hi,

Sorry to disagree, but the original Dual Recs were clones of the SLO component value to component value. Later Recs had a few values tweaked to accommodate manufacturing, but the fact is Mesa pulled a Behringer (or should I now say a Bugera). Peavey 5150 is also a SLO copy. Behringer/Bugera copied the copies.

Maybe you like the different tubes used (12AX7s instead of 5751s in the SLOs and different power tubes than the 5881s in the SLO), but compare the circuits, the SLO innovated, Mesa imitated (other than the rectifier addition).

Best regards,

Steve

I was thinking Soldano.
Hi,

5150 and Dual Rec where lifted from the SLO.

some suggestions to look into:

Laney, Kitty Hawk, Engl, Metalronix.

Actually, I have heard some fantastic shredding and metal played on a Dumble ODS amp, just don't tell him it's a blues amp. He will be happier when he grows out of his metal phase.

Best regards,

Steve
