1. Does this amp get most of its distortion from the preamp, power amp, or a combination of both?
2. What does HRM stand for? I assume it is some type of additional tone control?
3. Who sells the faceplates and chassis?
Thanks,
Rut

1.Mostly from the pre-amp.
2.Hot Rubber Monkey. Yes, it's a second tone stack - although it is internal.
3.Check out the "New Chassis Run" thread.

What does the jazz/rock and deep switch add to the tone. If we are talking Larry Carlton tone, what would be the switch settings for that?

These aren't my favorites. The jazz position has less bottom and top end than the rock position. It's ok combined with the deep switch but still not as rich and full as the rock position.rutledj wrote:What does the jazz/rock and deep switch add to the tone. Personally I like the boost and mid boost only. I seldom use bright and I never use the jazz.
Word is Carlton uses only the clean channel pushed to that point where it just starts to break up.

What kind on LC tone are you referring? Nowadays it's very different from just few years ago.
His Dumbles are almost completely different from those discussed in this site, I have heard it live from 10mt distance last week side-by-side with the Robben Ford (80's) one -> beside the obvious difference between those players, those are different amps!!!

Re: A couple of newbie questions
I guess I'm thinking current LC tone like in Sapphire Blue. Is his an older model? Which schematic would be more like his?
Thanks

Re: A couple of newbie questions
Ok that sounds a lot like old LC tone so you can nail it with an HRM clone.
Schematic for his current amps isn't known yet but a one-channel affair with overdrive coming from power amp is a good description.
