2x12 cab for SSS #002 ?

Post by Frostbite Slim »

I'm soon to take delivery of a SSS amp. I'm undecided to go with a pine or birch cab. The pine would be MUCH lighter I know, but are there any tonal advantage to pine with this sorta amp? Is birch the preferred wood?

I'll add my 2 cents.

In my experience, a hardwood or void free plywood cab will sound and feel tighter, especially in the lower end.

Now this also depends if the cab is open back or sealed.

Pine is popular among combo amp users.

I really think it is a matter of preference.

Ask 20 guitarists and you will get a different answer.

For my Dumble clone, I like a large semi open back with two EV 12L reissues which are known for clean tones.

The cab would be a "D" style open oval back 2x12.

I have a Reason Amps Oval Back 2X12 with a Pair of JBL E120's in it. With the exception of playing metal through it I think it does amazing job. Clear strong bottom, bright crisp highs...

Ask Jelle. He's played it.

I also have a 1X15 TL606 Electro voice cabinet that just kills with everything. And it might be for sale shortly. I'm about to shake some things up.
