D-lator cables

Post by Frostbite Slim »

I'm still new to the world of D-clones. I just took delivery of a D-lator ( Redplate) and am wondering what brand, and length of cables is recommended?

TIA

Assuming that the amp has an unbuffered loop with preamp/poweramp "access" jacks then the cables going from the amp to the D-lator and from the D-Lator back to the amp are essentially tone-shaping components. The preamp output -> D-Lator in cable will affect the tone the most.

I'd recommend just using whatever you have in there at first and listening then try something of a different length and listen again. The shorter cables will likely sound brighter assuming both cables have similar capacitance ratings. Experiment until you find the length / total capacitance that you like the sound of the best. As a general rule longer = more capacitance = darker sound = less fizz.

I dont think every amp needs the buffered loop, but when I do use I use two 7' RG400 cables.

Thanks. I'll look into the RG400. Any others worth mentioning?

Looks like good stuff. Maybe I should get enough for 2 5-7ft cables?

If he is cutting it from a roll, see if he will sell a 15' piece or get 20' and make u a couple of shorter jumpers with the extra footage.

Since I have my D'lator on top of the amp head, I use short (6" or so) patch cables to and from the amp.

The cable that runs to the pedal board is Mogami W2524 cable, I Believe they are 12' each.

Just got my 15' of RG400 today. Should I make 2- 7ft cables, 8ft/7ft, etc...?

FS please don't terribly overcomplicate this. See the first two responses above, make yourself two cables and call it a day, +/- 1 foot is no big deal.

Thanks TM. Like I mentioned, I'm very new to the "D" amp world. Up until recent I was strictly a vintage Fender guy...plug and play.

I never Imagined the staggering amount of particular info on the D amps. Good or bad, until I get a grasp on it I rely on members feedback here.

Peace

YW, understanding that it can be overwhelming and until you get to the point of knowing what to keep and what to throw away, that's not a bad mantra.

Don't be afraid to ask questions, but there's lot's of great info from years past, you just have to seek it out.

enjoy
