My chassis is already punched for octals, so I am going to stay with the 6V6's (at least, at this point). It hadn't occurred to me that the chime I am after is as much to do with the output stage as it is the preamp.

I am putting a defeat switch in the GNFB circuit and from what I am beginning to understand, I have a feeling that switch will stay in the non-FB mode. But we'll see.

At this point, I have a JBL D-130 slated for the amp. I have a Tone Tubby Alnico Hempcone in the 5E3 that I absolutely love. Not sure if I'll stay with the D-130 because I am not convinced it can single-handedly take that much power. I think my preference (aside from all the money it would cost) would be a closed back 4x10 with two Tone Tubby Alnicos and two Tone Tubby Ceramics. Maybe some day.... I have an EVM12L in a small, mostly open back cab that might just do the trick too...

You could use a socket mount like this and switch.
