Been a lazy poster but a busy reader for a while. Very inspiring & great people around!
Little amps are my obsession. Up to now I've build a SE KT 66 Champ, a GA-5 Variant (ss rectified) and just finished the turretboards for a 15 W Liverpool.
Can see some kind of D*mble on the horizon
Could be a D'Lite...since there are some appropriate irons around my workbench.
I was just wondering if anyone ever has tried a SE D*mble.
The singing sustaining tone is already THERE.
Adding gain stage(s) and/or some local feedback should work.
I bought it as a kit, So I used Dave Allen's transformers, He no longer sells the chassis, but he still sells the Iron.
I run an EH KT88 with a plug in SS recto, or a JJ E34L with a 5Y3. I changed the cathode resistor to 300 ohm, I changed the voltage divider after the first stage to lower it because it's a little over the top gain wise, I changed the .047 coupler on V1 to a .02 to tighten up the bass a bit.
At some point I plan to put a.001 across one of the plate resistors to round off the top end.
I get more tone compliments when I play this amp than probably any other rig I play.
Hmmm....1 X 12" with oval back kinda sorta like what I am going to do with my homegrown D'Lite, an Avatar cab and your G1265?!?!
Martin: Double check here for some good starting guidance on a one tube reverb plan that you might find interesting. I have yet to build an amp with reverb so I can't comment first hand on how it works. I am certain that there is a Hoffman forum that will give you that info though.
My recollection is that even though you won't get total "surf city" it is very useable for those of us that desire a reasonable level of effect for "flavor".
...my favoured speaker enclosure is my old oversized WEM Dominator cabinet w. Cel. G12/65 (bought it new in the early 80ties as a combo...)
Lots of ideas emanating from this fred
