Lord Valve, from NBS electronics. The person who wrote the text of the link directly above the comment.
He does a full old school burn in, mechanical stress test under voltage, and then matches them.

OK, I understand. The link doesn't work.
LV is 60 miles north of me, but I've never been in his shop. I got turned off by lack of website and gruffness on the phone. I thought maybe he was HAD's cranky brother. Maybe that was a mistake on my part? I used to get his emailed sales list but he always seemed pricey and the list stopped being sent. I'm trying to figure out what you like that I missed.

I fixed the link. Sorry about that.
Lord Valve actually sends out stable tubes that have been hand picked with the only method I know to be the right one. I have had very little issues with the tubes I got from him.

Yeah, I had the same experience. Guy was very abrasive when I talked to him and I decided not to give him my business. He is also under the impression that there are literally NO good NOS tubes left and then referenced Ebay. Not sure what his deal is.vibratoking wrote:OK, I understand. The link doesn't work.![]()

You think he's gruff on the phone, just try appealing to him in a rational manner on the forum.
Don't get me started.

The best place I have found for high quality , perfectly matched , low noise, vintage tubes is Hitest guitars. And his prices are better than most others.

He has been around the same block as me, I guess. I let it go. He is fighting it. lol
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

I wonder if the OP tried new cathode caps...

Here is another "old school" vendor. http://www.mcshanedesign.net/tubes.htm
I've done business with him, all very pleasant. I recall getting a matched pair of 6GK6 (EL84 sub with different pinout) for my TMB-18W. I believe he went through his stock to find me a matched pair of very stout and tonally pleasing Sylvanias. He asked me about plate voltage (around 300) and he tested a little bit above that, found a pair he liked and made sure they were burned in and stabilized.
His website caters to a hi-fi crowd, but he knows tubes, he knows amps, and he can talk "guitar" if you need him to do that. At least he posts what he's got and the prices.
When I first got interested in tube amps, I spent quite a bit of time at alt.guitar.amps, where I got some first rate advice and made a few friends along the way. As time went by, there was just a handful of guys who began to stink up the place so bad that anyone with any sense just pulled up stakes and went somewhere else. It's a shame, because the gruff individual when he posts on topic (a rare event) appears to know quite a bit about both amps and music.

Jim is one of the best. He helped me when I was coming into my own big time. Very knowledgeable and very helpful. Just had an email exchange with him last week.Phil_S wrote:Here is another "old school" vendor. http://www.mcshanedesign.net/tubes.htm

Hey there
That rubber component is for the vibrato. It has a light source and light sensor wrapped up inside of there. Think of it like this...the sensor part conducts due to light or lack of it. Let's take a light switch in your house for example let's say when you turn the switch on and the light comes on you get sound when the light is off you get no sound so the faster you flip the switch on and off the faster the lightbulb flashes and you get the thump thump thump of guitar sound. The light sensor reacts to the light flashing quickly or slowly and they wrap it in that rubber coating to keep any and all other light source out. So the sensor reacts to the bulb in the coating only. That's about as simple as I can explain it for you. I hope this makes sense to someone
All the best
