Great Sabbath sound -- you should start a tribute band! From what I've read, Bill Ward could use the gig!tag101 wrote:CHIP wrote:I honestly have been considering trying to lower the gain in the OD of my 183 copy.
to each his own.
I hear you. I usually have V1 and gain at 9- 10 O clock. Maybe something else is not quite right and the amp is lower in gain than it should be?? Mullard preamp tubes are VERY gainy in Dumbles, I use lower gain GEs or chinese. Here is my Quinn 183 clone doing a HEAVY Sabbath tune (Into the void) with V1 and gain at no more than 12 Oclock. (Chinese 12Ax7s) Its at least as much gain as Iommi uses, and that is pretty up there in the gain department IMO.![]()

Cool clip Tag.
I've spent 2 years now playing and getting to know what my #183 copy can do, and for me it's a classic rock machine, clean and OD. I can dail in almost anything I want for the tunes our band plays.
A Jack of all trades.

Thanks guys. All of this fusion and jazz, and Sabbath is still a challenge and blast to play. Iommi is a true composing genius. How he gets all the different parts in the songs so cohesive is amazing. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Volume 4 blow my mind to this day. Both are master pieces and stand up to almost any rock album ever, including the best Beatles material IMO. Another song with so many great parts is "The Writ" from Sabotage. Great stuff!!!
VERY GOOD VERY GOOD!
