I avoid Mouser and can find what I need at other sites.
If I do order I make a huge shopping list so I can justify the shipping cost.
Digi-key is near by me but I don't like shopping their either.

I don't prefer Mouse or Digikey either. My company orders from them, so I add my stuff onto our company order. I pay for the parts only and company pays all the shipping. Kinda parasitic, but it works for me.

Yeah that works very well for you.

Sorry, didn't mean to be a jerk. I was just sayin what I have to do in order to justify doing business with them. Not trying to rub it in.
Re: 5x3 6L6 deluxe
No worries I didn't think you were rubbing it in.
Cement resisters
If you two need these resisters I got extra

While we wait to see if smoke starts billowing out of Mike's house, can I ask something?
. . . and they have a bunch of other 5E3 PTs with varying "lower," "medium-low," "lowest," etc. B+ ratings. If one is going to build a bone-stock 5E3 that follows the Fender circuit, uses 6V6's and a real, not Russian, 5Y3, MM FTDO-59 OT, and is going to be plugged into 21st Century USA wall sockets with 120+ volts, which is the optimal PT to use? Assume for the sake of the question that the goal is to produce the classic 5E3 sound, not the on-the-verge-of-blowing-up Neil Young thing.wyatt wrote:
The FTDP is their uncompensated "copy" of the late '50's Tweed Deluxe PT. It gives you roughly the same 10% higher HT voltage you would get if you plug the old 110V PT into a modern 120-watt outlet.

This guy http://www.missionamps.com/transformers.shtml has specialized in 5E3's for many years, and probably has it right. His transformers are made by Magnetic Components. If you are set on using MM, give them a call, tell them what you are after, and ask for their recommendation.
Re: 5x3 6L6 deluxe
I would not get hung up on some magic 5e3 voltage. I have owned 10 or 12 and worked on many. Not one had the same voltage , some were lower most higher . The best sounding had a stock p12q speaker. The later ones from 1960 had the overall highest voltage and were great sounding.

I use this one and use the lower voltage taps.

But you have the option to use the higher voltage as well. But it leaves a lot of unused wires to clip and shrink-wrap off, not a clean looking as the 18021.
I've heard that the voltage spec's quoted on the Mercury may be unloaded (many transformer companies, if not most, quote the voltage under load...voltages go down as current goes up), which means the voltages are lower than they appear. But I can not substantiate that claim.
I sure didn't mind the higher voltage in my real '60 when I owned it and use it with modern 120V. But I gotta say, I think the amp is smoother with lower voltages. Though when I compared the high and low voltage winds on the 18078 PT, the tonal differences are negligible.

Almost guys?
I don't have a gz34. On hand, could I use a 5y3 instead just for the initial light up .No fires yet, also don't the diodes protect me from a bad rectifier tube?
