I just saw that Ritchie Havens died. Another Woodstocker bites the dust. I saw him play in Spokane in the 90's and he put on a great acoustic show.
He was on the same bill as the remnants of Jefferson Airplane - don't remember what they called themselves at the time. They had a rough gig that night. But Papa John Creach played an electric violin solo that brought the house down. Ritchie and Papa John were worth the price of admission.
RIP Ritchie.

In theory, theory is the same as practice. In practice it's different.

Loved Richie. I wish I could get that much music out of a guitar with my fretting thumb.

Re: Ritchie Havens RIP
His performance at Woodstock completely blew me away. Years later I played in a band that tried to do a heavy version of 'Freedom.' We just couldn't pull it off, it just wasn't as intense as that man and that voice.
RIP Richie.

Saw him a few years ago here in Chico, pop. 100K, at a performance for a couple hundred in the park. Awesome elder gentleman of gentle power. Rest in peace, brother.
