Guys
The clone you hear is not a Cierratone. It's Richie's hand built clone and a real Express owned by Glen.

Re: Trainwreck clips
I also found the first one to be a little better sounding to my ears, Richie didnt say one of the amps was a Ceriatone and I dont think either of them are. So all im sayin is I like the first one better, wether its the TW we shall see. . . It seems this blind taste test has put to rest the misnomer that you cant make a clone sound as good as the real deal.

Re: Trainwreck clips
I like both clips. But what are we comparing here. Same guitar? Same day? Same studio? Same pair of hands? Before or after lunch?
It's a different demo one to two. The amp is being asked to deliver something in both cases. I think both amps do a fine job. I like the number one demo best.

Re: Trainwreck clips
I listened to the clips at my home and then my office. How valid can the test be being played over computer speakers?
Re: Trainwreck clips
I think that computer speakers can be very valid(keep in mind they have some real good ones out there)...Obviously there is a lot missing from the little speakers and the digital recording, but I think that most people can hear some differences in the sound even through cheap radio speakers on a construction site boom box...I mean I can hear some notes and know if it's Allman Bros, Hendrix, SRV, Clapton, Van Halen, Zepplin, etc...The differences of the guitar and amp sounds do come through.
Most of the amp or effect or pickup clips that I hear, I think give a pretty good representation of at least the BALLPARK of what kind of tone you can expect to hear....Just the fact that people can in fact hear differences between the two amps in the clips make the demonstration a valid one
Unfortunately , my computer speakers are not working, so I can't have the pleasure of hearing Richie's amp or Geetarpicker's playing..
.But I think that I REALLY want to hear Richie playing through the amp...I've heard some other clips , and that guy can PLAY .

Re: Trainwreck clips
Get good speakers. Troll yardsales. I picked up an old analog 50 watt Pioneer stereo receiver and mongo speakers for 50 bucks. Those are "my" computer speakersJessie 160 wrote:I listened to the clips at my home and then my office. How valid can the test be being played over computer speakers?
That aside, I like characteristics of both clips. #1 is smoother; #2 has more sustain and kick.
Re: Trainwreck clips
I prefer amp number one. Much more musical in my opinion.
Re: Trainwreck clips
Well Richie,
You should be proud of your build. Whatever you did sounds pretty great. Wouldn't mind seeing the guts of your build or maybe a schematic!
Thanks to you and Geetarpicker for sharing.

Re: Trainwreck clips
I would be curious to see if the tubes from the amp in clip one would "tame" the amp in clip 2 a bit. That would be a more valid comparison test, but I trust the sweeter, more refined #1 would still be able to be distinguished from the more aggressive #2. But it'd still be a fun test!
I'm STILL too loud???
Re: Trainwreck clips
I believe Glen used the same tubes in both amps.
Re: Trainwreck clips
Are the amps the same(I mean values wise..)? if you can know such a thing..
Re: Trainwreck clips
# 1 clip is an express i built.# 2 cilp is Glens Express. I believe its the same clip as in his newest video he has posted. I cut it a little shorter so i could post it. The amps have a few differences like transformers. But stay pretty much along the same lines.
Re: Trainwreck clips
Glad to see I wasn't wrong... Makes me think about all the people in the les paul forum that really digged Glen's video yet, claim this second clip to be awfully unmusical!riscado wrote:on the other hand the second one in my opinion comes closer to the sound I'm used to hear from Glen's clips, when if comes to the overall sonic signature...
Personally I'll say again I thought differences were not that big, and were most noticeable on the clean sounds, not the overdriven ones.
Re: Trainwreck clips
Well, that's one hell of an amp you built... what schem did you use? or any specific mods you did?
Re: Trainwreck clips
Wow,
you have got to give us the full details on your build Richie. That is a seriously sweet sounding amp you have there!
Cheers,
Stephane.
