Better IL than TN I will never set foot in Memphis again.
A country boy a'int got no bidness their.
Sounds like an interesting story in there somewhere. I've never hung out there, but I have stopped there on a couple of cross country drives for those fantastic Memphis dry ribs.
I managed to get the rub and smoking down to perfection. The neighbors here in Seattle go crazy over them at our annual block party.
I'd love to visit the Beale Street Blues Boy's restaurant/club next time I'm out that way.
We used to go there a couple times a year used to go to Memphis in May a lot.
My wife grew up not far from Memphis and has family there. So I still have to go wether I want to or not.
There's a story let's just say police and jail and bullshit were involved.I was able to get all the charges dropped.
It's only three hours from here but two hours of it is crooked and steep.

You should check it out.Let me know if you come down 63 through AR.I'll fry some fish for yall or somethin[/quote]
Sounds like a deal. We used to drive back every two years or so. My wife and I got lazy this year and bought plane tickets for the three kids to go back and visit the grand parents.
Man, I just realized how long it's been since I've had some fried catfish.
So I've been on this old radio forum inquiring about that Motorola I posted here not too long ago and got a great amount of information about it, including the PT. The funny thing is, I posted in the classifieds section about being in the market for a 3801 and got a response...
"This is the famous Train wreck OP transformer. I have one. It's $250 plus shipping".
I then asked what color the endbells are. He tells me they're the black ones with yellow label. He also tells me this came out of a homebrew amp. In other words, used, and likely with shorter leads. I informed him that original Wrecks used the gray ones and offered what I thought was a pretty decent price at $150 plus shipping. He declined. Too bad, because I think it's very unlikely he'll get his asking price. Even if he came back at me and said he'd take my offer, I may not even offer it again because I do believe it's too much and would rather put it toward an original gray one, given the chance.

Ouch! No wonder someone is taking the time to make counterfeit ones...
Interesting stuff... there are still a few truths to be discovered about Wrecks and transformers, some held close by those early pioneers and others that have come to light over time by more modern pioneers.
One of the more interesting ones is hinted at in the earlier days of this thread concerning the voltage specs on a Rocket transformer. What we have come to recognize as the proper voltage for a Rocket build may indeed be a bit low... or could it be that all Rockets were not created identically??

I read on TGP about her and her first owner. He sold her because he preferred his old AC. Wonder if there's any regret about that now. Anyone built a TremRocket for himself on here? I know it's a one triode bias vary but that's pretty much the extent of it.

Also has an actual trainwreck power transformer I bought on eBay way back when, 2004 or so, I think. Paid around $120 and thought that was excessive.
One thing I remember about the transformers is that Ken described Heyboers as "microscopically perfect." That's good enough for me.
Nice clip, Jackie!
Do you mean you got a grey Stancor? If you did, score! I'm with you on Heyboer. I recently had them make me a custom one off to my specs and it didn't cost much more than a bill. Even got it in M6 for a few dollars more, just for the hell of it. Tell me a little more about the amp I'm hearing in that clip, if you would, please.
