Octal Three Fat

Post by tonewood »

I found this schematic that I think I would like to try but can't find any coments about it here with a search. Has anyone heard this in action? Is this amp from the same Phil_S that I see here sometime?

Thanks.

That's mine. The build was a flop for reasons probably unrelated to the schematic. I shoehorned it into a very small recycled chassis. It suffers with impossible to cure 60Hz hum, and I'm fairly certain it's the heaters. My intent is to raid out the parts and build something champish with a 6L6.

Anyhow, if you want to build it, go right ahead. I expect a 12 x 7 chassis will do the job very nicely. Do something to get the plate voltage up on the 6SJ7 (140-ish). I think I'd choose a different tone stack. I needed a one-knob tone stack due to space limitations.

Good luck with it and let us know how it works out!

Thanks Phil. I'm going to put it into an existing chassis that's about 7x10". I'll use something similar to the first two stages then use the third stage for a cathodyne splitter into 2 6k6s. It too may be too tight & noisy but I'll let you know what happens.

4 tubes in 7x10 is too tight for me. Good luck!
