Mixing Speakers

Well Ill break the ice on this one.The coolest experience I had last year was building a 2x12 maple cab and using a alnico blue and a greenback together.Never tried it before and it really sounded cool.I want to get 2 scumbacks next in a cab Im doing now.I like having removable back panal sections as well.You get to have a choice on how much you want open.
Speaker cabs really can make a amp change in a big way.The depth of a cab in the 2x12 produce more base and bottom.I have a recto cab that really takes marshall well.I think that cab is about 14" deep.Mike

My go-to cab for the past few years is also affordable. I bought an unloaded Avatar 2x12 (convertible, but I have it closed), and put in an Eminence Man-o-War and an Eminence Texas Heat. I love this cab for rock at full volume, and for playing quietly at home. Now nothing else sounds right. Not to say nothing else sounds good; I have a Celestion Blue in an open-backed pine cab that's awesome. But my Avatar has become the baseline for everything else.

Mikey I mixed up the same pair, Celestion Alnico blue with Celestion 25w green back. But then I got a Gold and paired that with the blue. The other blue is paired with Celestion 12H.

Today I started to put finish a natural maple for my buddy Bob.No dye just the pure maple.Little by little the figure comes to life with the oil.Gosh I love wood!!!!!!!!

Celestian vintage 30 and a Celestian Greenback.

In reply to the cab I use beech tendons in the miters ,they are from a festool domino tool.Cant get anything as strong as this.Biscuits just line things up but really dont add strength.They will never come apart with this system.Mikey

I did it by accident many years ago, being a dumbass cheapskate kid.

I blew one of the speakers in an Ampeg VT-22. I think those were Eminence with a square magnet.

Someone sold me a used EVM-12L cheap to replace it (This was the seventies).

The combo of one speaker that compresses with one that is more hifi was pretty magical. But at the time, I thought the magic was the new speaker. A few years later I replaced the other Eminence with another EVM, but it wasn't the same, and I went back to two different speakers.

Something about two different voices separated in space just makes an amp sound more 3D.
