Any ideas for a 15" speaker in an OD 50W?

Am using the stock 15" alnico Jensen, that came with the amp before it was modded to a 50w clone. It's similar to the dumblelite, except I am using the original 8 Ohm OT as well. Pics are in the file folder under Sano dumble. Anyway, was interested in what others have used, and like. I was considering a Weber california model, since a friend of mine has one in his vibroclone. The highs and lows are clearer and more defined (previous speaker JBL). My old jensen just breaks-up too much. thanks Bob

I've never used the weber, so I can't help. I've got a altec 418b that Iliked. But the alnico magnet will break up a little more. I have to pull that out of the closet and give it a try again.. Too bad I don't have anything that will fit it anymore.. Maybe a JBL?

I've built a few of the Fender 75 amp's using the Jensen Mod 15 in. speaker, the price is very reasonable and the tone was very good, i don't know if it come's in 50 watt's or not, but the 100 watt was perfect for the Fender 75 watt amp !

Kind of heavy, but an EV15-L is a good solution.

The Jensen Neo 15 is quite good and the added bonus of it's light weight.

Thanks all for the great replies, I am leaning towards a Neo first since it is reasonably priced and could use it somewhere else if I don't like the tone. If so, I'll try the EV15-L as a 2nd choice.

One more vote for the EVM12-L over here!!! Very good sounding speaker.

I bit the bullet a few years back and shelled out the dough for two vintage JBL D-130's. I had them reconed by Weber when he was still reconing. I haven't owned or heard anything comparable since. They are very efficient speakers though which translates to very loud. Just my 2 cents.

Mr Dumble went to Altecs because he didn't like the 4" voice coil on the JBLs. Said he'd seen too many flame outs with Jackson Brown.

The JBL stuffed Super Reverb I used to use was too bright for my taste. I've never played one of their 15" jobs. I do own a pair of Altec 418B 15" but both are in need of attention before I can use them. Real scratchy voice coils.

Hey Bob. Go over here and horse around with these clips. You can really hear how much the 15" break up when pushed. The smaller speakers hold up to a pounding better.

I'm using an EVM15L in a lopoline cabinet. Sounds amazing. Plenty of brightness, smooth mids and big fat bottom end.

Same here. I have an EV15L that I use every so often. Sounds huge but has a nice balance. The EV12L's big brother. I also have a JBL 15" (can't remember the model) and the EV is definitely better to my ear for what I like to hear. The Altec's are cool but I personally get tired of their tone very fast. Hope this helps.
