Eminence Delta Demon vs Legend 1058

Post by skyboltone »

Greetings:
Ok, I'm wanting to build a 4 x 10 cab like the old Bassman. I bought one of the Delta Demon 10" some time ago based on I don't know what. Confusion I think. I've never had it out of the box.

Eminence has added a clips section to their website now and after listening to the Delta Demon 10" I find it dead as a smelt and just non-existent in the highs. Based on the clip I'm gonna Ebay it.

The legend 1058s sound like really basic Fender. Scooped mids, jangly highs, and a solid bottom end.

Question. Anybody have personal experience with either of these drivers?

Thanks in advance
Dan

I bought a couple of Delta Demons to calm a little top-end from my Maz18. I couldn't get them out fast enough. "Muffled" doesn't begin to describe them.

I like the Legends (I'm not sure I have that exact model, though)- I have some in a Bassman 10 they even made that amp sound pretty good.

I have also used the 12" Cannabis Rex with great results.

I know it's not the sound your looking for but I have a 4 x 10 cab with Eminence Ramrods in it and they sound great. Nice British tone.

The Legend 10 inch alnico's (ca 40w) are very good...don't know the model number but it is the eminence speaker. I have them in my superreverb that I converted into an ODRS. Very cool amp! Also with the orig ab763 schem these speakers sounded awesome!

I have no experience with the Delta Demon.

However, I have built a 5F6-A clone and used two Legend 1058 speakers in a 2 x 10" combo config - narrow panel mount / baffle, etc. I found Eminence's description of these, as being equivalent Alnico replacements, to be dead accurate. Great tone, Fender Tweed at its finest. They are also pretty loud - more efficient than the Alnicos.

I have since bought two more and put them all in a 4 x 10" cab, removing the 5F6-A chassis to eventually rebuild as a 6V6 JTM45/1987. Still sounds great - open or closed back.

I would not hesitate to use these in a '59 Bassman clone or replacements in an original.

I've got a pair of 105's in a Deluxe Reverb clone and I love 'em. They sound exactly as you described from your listening to the clips.
