Gluing Loose Base on 6V6GT
What's the best adhesive to use for repairing a loose base on a 6V6GT?
Seems like I have heard to use fingernail polish or superglue. I was considering 2-part epoxy. It obviously needs to withstand high temps.
Anybody have any advice? I have a sweet old Delco (RCA) tube that is flaky, and I want to try to save it. It sounds sweet when it is not being intermittent.

I've used Rocksett high temp adhesive before.

Clear nail polish works great and you can buy a bottle for 99 cents Take the brush and go around the groove and then wiggle the envelope to sort of wick the stuff in. Then a second coat and set it aside for fifteen or twenty minutes.
Someone once posted the recipe that RCA used for gluing tubes into their bases.
Here's a link to everything you ever wanted to know about tube bases and adhesives, including a recipe good for 23,000 tubes..

To the OP: just divide everything by 23,000 and you'll have exactly what you need.

I have never had (just speaking for myself here) much success gluing those things back on. They always seem to break off.
I just put a white (or color of your choice) line on the location of the now missing guide pin. If a guy can work on an amp, he aught to be able to line up a tube with a broken guide for Pete Sake.
best

AES has guide pin replacements that can slip over the pins for repair.hired hand wrote:I have never had (just speaking for myself here) much success gluing those things back on. They always seem to break off.

Re: Gluing Loose Base on 6V6GT
The problem I have is where the glass has come loose from the plastic base, and the glass part of the tube actually wiggles around within the base. I'm not sure I can repair it successfully, since the tube actually cuts out when it moves a certain direction. That leads me to believe that one of the wires connecting to the pins is intermittent.
My plan is to get it in a good position and glue it. After the glue is dry, I will re-flow the solder on the pins. If that doesn't work, it will be a cool looking ornament for my shop.
I guess I'm leaning toward super glue or nail polish at this point.

Re: Gluing Loose Base on 6V6GT
I was tempted to try the divide by 23,000 recipe, but the math blew my mind. So I used super glue. The Loctite gel stuff. It worked just fine. I re-flowed the pins on the base, and the tube now works great! One of my finest sounding RCA 6V6's.
It looks a little rough. Super glue is messy stuff, and it ended up in some places I wish it hadn't, but hey, this tube is for my own use anyway, so it's all good. At least I didn't glue my fingers together!
