...and also at 9am. Man I need to erase that from my brain. I think the fall was worse than the shock. I change my mind about this afternoon-the wife and I were planning on climbing some power lines.

One time, probably 30 years ago, a friend and I were up in the Cascade foothills driving around some back roads.

There were a few "new" transmission towers without wires strung on them yet.

We climbed on that was on the edge of a cliff, I went out on the top arm and it must have been
about 500 feet down to the bottom.

Even on the side where I parked it was over 220 feet above ground.

Have some pictures around here somewhere that we took when we were up there.

No high tension wires but scary as hell to be that high above ground.

Of course we had some liquid courage to fortify our bravery.

Would have been tragic if either of us had fallen.

Man I did some stupid stuff when I was younger.

Heights are fine. Depths kind of freak me out. I love the sky above and the earth below.

These days I do absolutely nothing to keep it that way. :)

Rapel on! (echoes the past)

Yes, I don't really like heights or depths (perspective?) anymore at this stage of life.

I can tell you in my construction career as a plasterer, I have been on some scary scaffolding sometimes as high as
12-14 stories on the outside of buildings we were working on.
Had a few close calls on those.

But I think the scariest were the cable lifts, sort of like what window washers use with the double cable and platform.
Real scary when the wind blows.

Or the single man cable lifts.

Or being out on the end of a 100 ft boom lift.

[img:215:350]http://www.ableequipment.com/img/thumb/S100.gif[/img]

Almost got thrown out of one of those before.
Of course we wore safety harnesses but they don't do much to calm the nerves.

Or the super tall scissor lifts.
Those can get real wobbly when all the way up.

I pretty much like my feet on solid ground anymore.

Yeah, unnerving.

To tackle massive distances in the negative vertical I have always just taken a deep breath and pictured everything working out just fine. Time slows down and I regulate my breathing so as to not pass out from hyperventilation. haha

Reason rules the level of nerves, for instance once a plane is higher than 3kft I give up and start drinking. Funny thing is that I love aerobatics and mock combat. I will mess you up above 5k. ;)

What's funny for me is that as soon as I had kids, I developed a fear of heights. I used to rock climb and rappel. Maybe some kind of biological thing where once you have kids you're a little more attuned to self-preservation. Or maybe I just got old.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood.

Not much lately. We used to fly every Sunday when I was a kid and I took every chance I ever got to ride in anything scary with a prop. Merging with another plane @ 400 mph just a few feet apart might be about the most exciting thing I ever did all day, ever. heh

The man on top of the train was even harder to watch. He was smoking at the end of it. Then the tower climbing video sucked my nuts way up in my stomach. I don't do well with heights. Most scared I have been was doing x-ray work on a water tank. We had to climb straight up the side then up on the top and down in the tank. The hardest part was hiking my leg over the rail and climbing down. Ugh. It still wigs me out.
I've got blisters on my fingers!
