Sleepers will be the death of TAG
Are you sure this is a good idea? I fear The sleepers are going to invite the idiots from the gear page, vintage amp forum, and every other jack ass with a marshall to word vomit all over the site. Ugggghhhh well it was fun while it lasted.

I'm at a complete loss. I have no idea what you're talking about. Care to enlighten the 'out of touch'?

We should just close the signup.

See, what happens is the forum becomes zombie bait... they come in hordes, they want brains but they don't have any to share..

As long as they let the turtles be.

In all seriousness, there are other great amps besides dumbles and trainwrecks, and we can learn a lot from those designs. I'm in.

I totally agree in most every way. The forums need deeper descriptions. The tech might need to split into one for fora from Guitar Center catalogs, and another for people who work on amps, not the one that exists being trashed by a "whats a matter with my tube" wall of zombie repeats.
I don't care about store bought amps.. AHA! STORE BOUGHT AMPS would be a great TOP forum as a catch all.

We already have a information on other great amps. Use the search function. Or if you want Marshall, fender, vox, Mesa go visit those specific forums on the www. TAG was a nice quiet forum filled with a nice mix of knowledge and creativity. Once those sleepers start hitting search engine returns it's going to be trolled and plagued with same bullshit as the other forums. Give it a year or two Max. I really hope I'm wrong. I understand what the mods hoped to incorporate its just going to be a full time job keeping it from going bad.jelle wrote:As long as they let the turtles be.![]()

Peavey Discussion?
Tubeworx Discussion?
These would have kept the riff raff out. We can't hide forever. I'm not building any Crate headboxes though.

Re: Sleepers will be the death of TAG
Valid concern, and I share those. In fact, I have discussed those with Greg before he added the fender, Marshall, and vox/hiwatt subforums.
The reality is that TAG has been great as a platform where the trainwreck and Dumble circuits were dissected. Now that this info has been out there for a while, I, as well as Greg, have seen many of our friend builders moving on to new challenges like marshalls, fenders, vox, hiwatt, or some oddball tremolo circuits to give some examples. And these challenges were not being discussed at the place on the web they liked so much -because of the great tech based info sharing- and so TAG is loosing those people. Plus the TAG community is missing great learning experiences on 'other' circuits.
I welcome the additions because I enjoy continued learning in a stimulating environment. The challenge will be to keep the discussions of sufficient quality.
Another big advantage is that info will be more easy to find in one forum.I am really getting tired of having to look for info on a gazillion forums. By centralizing this info on TAG, this issue will be fixed as well. Overall, I see more plusses than minuses. But I feel that strong moderators will be required.

I will try to offset some of the influx with a little more serious attitude. I treasure this place as a resource. the kindest people who bring all this knowledge and experience from so many angles are not just a gift, you guys are some of my most valued friends.ToneMerc wrote:[

Too many to note, but most notable all of you.. and Lefty too.. ok, I stipulate to Lefty as well..

PS: jelle, the search function won't string words even in quotes or parenthetical comment. Google also hates a site searh here.

Greg, we need more subforums, or at least one on 'other amps'.

Re: Sleepers will be the death of TAG
Maybe the Vox/Hiwatt sub-forum could be expanded and renamed to something like Other Classic Amps, with a description mentioning Vox, Hiwatt, Ampeg (can't forget Ampeg!), etc. I think the discussion volume on those would be smaller so one sub would cover them. One danger i see is that too many sub-categories makes it harder to keep up with what's going on. MEF kind of suffers from that...
