Re: Ahhhk soldering
I'm guessing you have a sizable analog desk. What, no ProTools for Miles?

No analog anymore. ITB all done in Digital Performer. My left hand has tolerance up to 500°f today though...

Man, that's a lot of plugs to solder!
I like to solder but that's a bit much for me to enjoy!

Re: Ahhhk soldering
Is that a newer PowerMac? If so, I'm surprised you have it int an iso box as I've heard they run really quiet.
Back in college (mid 70's), I learned on a Neve desk and an MCI 24-track with Dolby type A noise reduction, and huge Tannoy monitors. Those were good times....

Re: Ahhhk soldering
Good news is that my record stands at around 1500 patch points (x3 points each end) without a failure. Yay!
I have been all ITB since umm this makes 10 years. I don't miss archival tapes since I do miss affording assistants. We talk about installing a console, then argue about which one. So far I win. None is better than the other option. Cheap too!
The thing I miss about analog is mixing scenes on the fly. I like to print the high points then punch in the dramatic stuff. Full automation takes the life and art out of it. This business is just about done anyhow. I dunno how I made it the last 5 years, honestly.

Make sure you meter your grounds for resistance.

Re: Ahhhk soldering
Everything is tailed out to a system drain too. I put a 100k resistor at the end of the line and measure every point to there before walking away.
my multitester thinks I am a freak.
Punch down is nice, but when you have a million POT TT jacks you melt metal for funz! hah
I think I have fumitus though.. -wheeze-
You sure have been busy.
