6V6 ODS or D'Lite??

Post by tubeman »

Hi all,

I have been building amps for a couple of years now. I have built a Marshall 1987 Plexi clone, Fender Vibroverb clone, and a Fender champ. I am now looking at buildinga 6V6 ODS. I copied a visio from the Normster for a 6V6 ODS , but I cant find any schematics....Has anybody built that amp? Just wanted thoughts between that amp and maybe a D'Lite??

Thx

tubeman,
My first amp build was a D'Lite. I am extremely happy with the outcome. I do, however, think the amp sounds much better with 6L6's for power and a tweak on the PAB. I went in wanting a lower wattage amp that would give up a nice, singing overdrive at low SPL. The master volume works extremely well in these designs so, the volume difference hasn't been an issue for me. If you are bent on a 6V6 amp - I have some brand new JJ's that are now in my boneyard

Well the reason I was wanting to use 6V6's is that both my Vibroverb and Plexi clone can get really loud.....I also allready have a tweed delux pt. My only concern is can it supply enough current to drive the extra reverb tube for the 6v6 ODS. From what I can tell by looking at the layout, it seems that Normster is using one tube for both reverb driver and recovery. I am curious about the circuit that is driving the 1st preamp stage... Looks kind of like pedal effects built in.....

The small circuit board on the input is an FET circuit. I've only built it for one amp so far just to see what it sounds like. I didn't like it so I didn't add it to the 6V6 ODS.

Since I built that particular amp with Moose's Trainwreck iron, it actually sounds better with EL34's. Loren (who owns it now) plays it with EL34's through a Marshall 1960 cab and loves it.
