PAB blues
Does anyone else find the PAB to be a little too over the top on it's own? I would love to take the clean boost off my pedal board but, I find I use the PAB with the OD channel a lot but, never without. I set my clean boost at a level in between my clean sound and clean + PAB. I prefer the clean tone with a little less boost than the PAB yields. Is there an elegant way to pad the boost or vary it without losing the benefits?
Thanks in advance

Re: PAB blues
If you're talking about the D'Lite PAB, then yes, it can be padded. Rather than lift the ground entirely, you can switch in a resistor. If you look at the Dumble schematics, the PAB uses two 22M resistors in the PAB circuit...one on the bass side and one on the treble side. You can wire as Dumble did, or to simplify things a bit, try wiring so the bass pot goes through a 10M resistor to the treble pot when in PAB. Adjust the resistor to suit the amount of PAB gain you want.

Thanks Normster. I'll fiddle with those tweaks.

Allen amps use a 10k pot to dial in the amount of PAB; what they call their Raw control.

Re: PAB blues
The PAB Should ALWAYS have 20M or 22M (or less if you prefer) The schematics that show a pure "Lift" are incorrect to the "real thing"

Where would one find a schematic or drawing of this part of the ( Real Thing )circuit?

Re: PAB blues
Pre Amp Boost - basically removes the tone stack from the signal path - or at least SEVERELY pads it out.

Re: PAB blues
start with the standard schematic, the drawing of the PAB switch shows a DPDT switch, one throw on each side connects to the rock/jazz switch, the other throw on each side connects to dead air(incorrect). Simply put a 22M resistor across each side from throw to throw so that when the boost is engaged the signal now goes through the 22M resistors instead of being "lifted".

Thanks Funk,
I'll look at both of my amps and see what I have there. Sounds like the answer to my problem.

Re: PAB blues
Well, my D'Lite has no resistors there and my non-HRM 50 watter has the 22M resistors at the relays. I may try clip leading some values in the 50 watter and see what value I end up with. More later.....

Re: PAB blues
Well, opened up both amps today. All I had were 4.9Meg resistors. I ended up adding 1 - 4.9M to each 22M that were in the 50watt nonHRM and 2 (roughly 10M) to the D'Lite. I am much happier with the boosts in both amps now. I can finally use them on top of the clean to get a little hair. Very satisfied with the outcome. Thanks to everyone for the help.
