Tutorials on how to bend chassis ?

Post by xtian »

Trying to buy a used sheet metal brake, and dreaming about making my own aluminum chassis. Any how-to videos or posts around?

Related item: options for mounting nuts without welding?

TubeDepot show some hammer-in nut action:

What are those?

And I'm aware of rack mounting nuts with the retainer clips. These require a square hole. Is that easy to create with a nibbler or file?

There is also a brand by the name of PEM, and they make both captive nuts as well as captive studs - hence the brand name PEM nuts and PEM studs, which you may have heard before. But I am pretty sure these require a press to install.

Yes! "Self-clinching nut." Now, where to buy?

Anyone had success hammering them in, instead of press?

Fun video to watch. build an amp in 15 minutes. The only thing I saw that bothers me is the ground lug under the transformer bolt. Someone ought to tell him not to do that.

Does anyone think the hammered in stuff will stay there? I've never tried it. It's an honest question.

I was thinking the same thing as I watched him hammer it in. It's definitely a valid question.
