Adding Chapters to Long Audio Files

Post by jon »

I have a bunch of long audio files that I would like to add chapter/tracks to. Does anyone know an easy way to accomplish this?

You can save your audio as a movie, and add chapter markers using QuickTime Pro:

Of course you will have to use QuickTime to play back the audio.

For eBooks, they break the audio into multiple files to denote chapters. This does not require a special file format nor specific playback software.

What operating system are you on? A simple wave editor would do that, and not be exclusive!

I use Audio Cleaning Lab. I got it many years ago to convert vinyl albums to wave files. On an album, it can automatically insert track markers based on the silent passages between songs, but will also allow you to insert your own markers. When you do your export, it creates a separate file for each track. It also has some tools for cleaning up the pops and tape hiss on tracks, equalization and stereo widening.

The last version I bought was about $30.

Full gamut of stuff out there for you from the cheap and simple up to Sequoia.

I master with Wavelab by Steinberg. If you have to do something like this a lot, it might even be worth looking at.

I also use Wavelab.

There are several versions. You can probably get by with the less costly version. Wavelab Elements 7 runs $99 at retail and will get the job done.
