I have an early one of these, never assembled (I have a lot things never assembled). But it might be interesting to see how different the two are. Mine is an unsold Climax as opposed to New Joyzee. Might be the same. Or not.

Notice when you open it, the thing says "New JoyZee Amp Kit" ?!?!

From reading an old Google Groups archive, it seems that these were indeed one and the same amp at one time, ALMOST!

While not having gone through the entire schemo yet, I almost immediately found one difference on the Lead Channel.

The oh, so professional (sic) handwritten "Climax" version (if this is correct) shows the Lead Channel Treble pot as 1 Megohm.

However, the (somewhat more professionally prepared) Kendrick version shows a Lead Ch. treble pot value of 250K. Hmmm.

Without combing through the entire design, it looks like there is at least one difference, possibly due to date(s) of the schematics?

That 1 meg pot in there instead of a 250 K is going to affect that frequency filter network somewhat, for sure (how much?).

It's great to have the two schematics to compare now. Looking forward to delving deeper to see what Ken and Gerald had in mind.

Hey Firestorm, wanna sell your (as yet unassembled) Kit?
I bought mine already built, and so lost out on the "fun".

Anyone else want to chime in with speaker cab configuration experience? Still trying to decide on a build format.

No I got that schematic when I was looking into building an Express from scratch.

Mine came with the board already assembled and with all the leads wired. But had instructions to move the Clean channel caps from the board to the pots to prevent oscillations. Funny that the lower gain channel had that problem. Lead dress matters.

The "Trainwreck" channel in these is more heavily attenuated than in Ken's. I think Gerald didn't like the gain.

I don't want to sell mine (sorry). I have some ideas to tweak it and will likely add some kind of PPIMV and power scaling. I toyed with the idea of building something like this commercially, but it was too close to the original to be ethical (for me)

I'll take a look at what values shipped in this kit and maybe we can see if Mr. Weber tweaked the circuit in subsequent runs.

I am thinking that the Schemo that Structo posted IS the proper one for the Climax as I found a similar copy elsewhere. Hmmmm.

That being the case, we can examine and extrapolate the differences in the circuit between the two designs.
Since Kendrick made both amps (Climax & New Joyzee) any or all of the changes would have come through Gerald (eventually, anyway).

I would definitely be interested in tweaking the Wreck channel to be more true and accurate to Ken's original, just for fun.
Even if stability were an issue, it may be interesting to play with?
