Goop it?
You know how some OT's have exposed tabs on the shell as opposed to having wires that connect inside the chassis? Well, last night while tapping on the preamp tubes on my new build, (While sitting in front of the amp so I couldn't see the tabs from my seating angle) I noticed my hand came awfully close to the the exposed B+, and plate tabs.
I would like to put some goop or something to avoid having exposed high voltage outside of the chassis. Just wondering what kind would do or what is recommended?
Cheers

Would the insulator for a spade conector slide over the terminals?
Something like this.

Shrink tubing, if you're willing to resolder.
If not, silicone tape.
If not, silicone tape.
Re: Goop it?
A dab of silicone will do ya (if you do not plan on taking it apart any time soon).
Re: Goop it?
No, i wont be taking it apart anytime soon. Silicone would crack and dry over time tho, wouldn't it?
Re: Goop it?
I dont think that would work cbass. So far a dab of Silicone sounds like the best way to go. Not sure how reliable it would be over time.cbass wrote:Would the insulator for a spade conector slide over the terminals?

Xtian, what kind of silicon tape?
I found this one on line but it can only stand 200 V

It doesn't in my bathtub.tribi9 wrote:No, i wont be taking it apart anytime soon. Silicone would crack and dry over time tho, wouldn't it?
Anyway, silicone is often used in high voltage manufacturing but I do not know if the stuff you get at the hardware store has any compatibility issues with electronics.

Re: Goop it?
I think you should use electronics grade RTV if you are going to use a silicone product ...
Household silicone releases acetic acid (strong vinegar smell) when it is curing.
Acetic acid is at least slightly corrosive to metals (most metals dissolve in acid) ...
Electronics grade RTV gives off alcohol vapors not acetic acid vapors

Re: Goop it?
liquid tape...sold at most Fry's or electronics stores

altho it doesn't state it's dielectric resistance...it's gotta be a meg or more
HMC is cheeper

Don't overthink it. Just drink it.
Re: Goop it?
Thank you Chief. That looks like the perfect solution.
Re: Goop it?
You can buy the GE Silicone II at Home Depot for really cheap. It does not leech acetic acid and is not conductive in any state. And as far as the acetic acid thing is concerned, it's not corrosive unless the vapor can't escape during the drying period (i.e. when a sealed piece of equipment is being manufactured quickly on an assembly line). i do think that type is conductive until fully cured though, plus it smells like toxic vinegar!

I bought a pair of shoes from a drug dealer the other day. I dunno what he laced them with but I’ve been tripping all day,
