Not Like This!

Post by Bob S »

In a building frenzy I started this without drawing a layout.
I was so far along before I realized the flaws in the layout, that I decided to finish it. What the hell. How bad can it be.
I have a much better looking layout drawn now.
Not as elegant as Martin M's layouts, but it's a step in the right direction.
The sickness continues...

Hey, I like the concept Bob! Power string down the middle lets you put the tubes on two lines instead of one, which solves the length problem I began to run into with only two output tubes, and lets you spread the transformers out too. Thanks for the props... There were a number of iterations in my layout process, so I worked through my issues in virtual space. Keep it up- maybe we can inspire even more out of the box thinking!

Bob I like that and I bet this layout will tame some of the control issues with the Liverpool. Nice! :)

This version looks better...
Stock Liverpool circuit with Presonance (thanks to Martin M) & power scaling (thanks to Dana).
The journey continues.

Yea, like that! Smaller dimensions this time- what size is your board now?

Thanks Martin.
This one's 14 x 6".
Next one will be 13 x 6" or 12 x 6"
I want to add some relays to the board, so it's still work in progress.
Got to fit the psu in there somewhere.
Presonance works great!
It gives the regular Presence an extra dimension.
Thank you for sharing the innovation.

How are you drilling the holes for the tube socket access? Hole saw, step bit?
If it says "Vintage" on it, -it isn't.

I use step bits. The tube socket holes on this are all 1" dia.
My 2 previous versions were smaller but it was difficult to wire / solder in there.
For 1/16" thick board, it's best to use a step bit with small increments.

I recommend a 1-1/8 bi-metal hole saw, half-way through from each side. Much cheaper per hole than a step bit, and much less G-10 turned into nasty dust.

Either way use a dust extractor. Not good to breathe that stuff.
I use a shop vac.

I started this in a frenzy & messed up in ways that are too embarrassing to post here.
As retribution, & a reminder to myself to think things out before I dive in, I decided to complete the build. Doesn't look too bad - from a distance with your eyes crossed. Think I'll call her Pin Cushion - she has enough extra holes for sure.
Power up tomorrow morning - power up & initial testing never goes well after a couple of beers.
