It was kind of interesting seeing the chassis interior photos. I noticed a few things. Quite a variety of resistor brands. Looks like Xicon caps possibly into the LTPI?

I don't see any smoothing caps?

And there is a snubbing cap between the LTPI plate resistors. I typically find that to be somewhat of a tone killer. I also have found that if that same "snubbing cap" is moved to the far side of the LTPI coupling caps (point going to power tubes) that it has not dulled the tone on the amps that I have tried that on. A guy on the Hoffman forum mentioned to try it like that, and when I have ......... it worked for me.

Having said that, all the sound clips of Bludotone amps have impressed me & I liked the tone.

Just my observations. With respect, 10thtx

Can you describe better where you put that smoothing cap?

I've noticed similar variety in other Bludotones that I've been in/seen. In fact, I've seen them where the NTE poly/mylar caps are in most of the tonestack positions. Also, it looks like he is using nice, audio grade carbon-film resistors in the "audio path", but metal film elsewhere. Gorgeous build quality every time from what I've noticed.

I have tried the snubbing cap (usually 10p - 22p range) prior to coupling caps in a handful of amps only to always remove it because it sounded to me like a thin blanket was put over the speaker. A muted/muffled tone with significant loss of high.

Some guy on the Hoffman forum tried it AFTER the coupling caps and reported liking it. I was quite skeptical, but two insulated alligator clipped wires and silver mica caps later .......... I found that it did NOT kill the highs and give me the muted/muffled tone that the snubbing caps did.

I have no explanation why there is a difference, but I have used silver mica caps up to 120p (usually 47p-82p) after the coupling caps and have liked the tone.

Try it sometime and report back if you have similar results. Some of the Hoffman guys have also reported liking it.

I don't use this on all my amps, but have used it with successful results of what I was wanting to hear.

Looks like it has a post OD tone stack board on the main board, so technically it would not have any smoothing caps (?)... Agreed, nice build quality.

Speer/Koa CF1/2CT carbon film, Speer/Koa MF1/2 metal films in the signal paths and the same higher wattage Speer MF on the plates. Also S/K in the power supply and a few Vishay flameproofs sprinkled around.

Agreed it would appear to be a Bluesmaster with a couple of power supply mods in place.

Not too sure about the cap across the plates versus at the coupling caps though?

Thanks for the details TM.

One question, the (apparently) KOAs on the PI plates, and the grids into the 6L6s, are those CF also?

BTW it looks like a "production" build unit, for I would guess that for Santana and others with fame he would would use more Vintage NOS parts inside and some NOS tubes. Probably some MM trannies also, as with his volume, he could get a nice discount on them.

Thanks again.

Yes, CF as well. Unless things have changed he's still fond of the iron Heyboer winds for him.

Pretty sure they're NTE 630v caps, he's used them in quite a few amps.
