UL taps

Post by Reeltarded »

Can I rewire without the UL taps and the amp still works? In a testing phase before a big remodel and started wondering.

To clarify, wire up a Major like a Super. Pentode Marshall thing.

Yes, you can. Some amps have a triode-pentode-UL switch.

Is this an actual Major you want to experiment with? I would want to figure out what the load impedance would be, see how that looks on the plate curves, and probably add two 500 ohm to 1k ohm 10W resistors between the junctions of the existing 250 ohm screen resistors and the B+ (one for each side). If it gets away from you it could be a very expensive mistake!

Yaap, working amp. I figure making a working amp work is easier. The ones that don't work are missing power transformers.. and hey, you guys taught me everything I know. Success is just getting started. Heee.

I need coffee!

Surprise! This amp has been dicked with. Confusing that there is metal behind 3 added holes in the back plate. Chassis not drilled, back plate replaced with earlier one from another amp. I expected red boards and got yellow. The cement piers are all there, and one has a couple cement blocks stuck on it to replace a lost resistor. Rest looks straight.

None of these damned things have common couplers. Always some other brand. This has to be my latest model, no matter what the serial said. Fooo.

Do you know which model it is, and what kind of voltage do you have for B+ (at the HT fuse block / OT CT)?

This one is a lead model (m. 1967) by the circuit, split vs shared on the m. 1978s that I have.

No known voltages yet as I need to replace two cracked TS caps and get a few hours of Sun here to heat it up good before I try to reform the caps. From previous experience I can tell you that it's more than I'd like to taste. Some things are just too spicy. ;)
