Started an HRM project
The powerfilterboard http://www.pichotel.com/pic/16028B31e/123156.jpg is almost ready, I'm deciding what size resistors to put before and between the 22uF caps that are feeding the dumblelator tube. I think I'll start with 56k/56k Any suggestions ?
Btw. I'm building 2 power tube version using Normsters layout as help: http://bad-domain/97HRM/97_ODS_HRM_Loop.JPG
Thanks,

						Re: Started an HRM project
Greetings,
While on the subject of power supplies, I have several questions: first, just curious, what brand/model are those electrolytic 47uF caps? Also, what is the actual maximal voltage that those caps should handle ... since I see total voltage of 600V for those serial 300V caps and a capacitance of 1/2 of 47uF each set, that is, approx. 24uF.
I suppose one could use 22 or 24uF caps with 630V capacity rather easily, than? What is the actual max. voltage there, really?
I see that 220uF caps are to deliver 700 Volts. Would 630V there do well, also?
Of course, that would be done with polypropylene metallized caps, such as Solen etc.
All the best,
Sven

Re: Started an HRM project
Cool, a PCB. Are you making the main board PCB also or will that be an eyelet board?

Hope someone more experienced answers Svens questions

I'm slowly progressing with my build. This will be a combo with a built in dumblelator and since I like spring reverb a lot, one tube reverb is included also. The PAB and OD will be footswitchable. Here are some photos of the mess

Mat,
That looks very nice. It is not messy at all!
I completed (well almost...) a HRM with reverb and loop. The loop is not in circuit yet. The amp sounds very nice. Good luck!
Please let us know how she turns out!

Hi Jelle,
Thanks for Your words. It is nice to know that someone else has also included the d-lator and reverb. I try first to include the loop, then try to make it bypassable and after that I will try to connect the reverb circuit in. Lots of 'trys' but hope to get help from the forum if need be.
Btw. did You built one tube reverb or two tube ?
I surely will put out a complete report when the build is ready.
Thanks,

Hi
I recommend to do a lot of tests and build the amp in 'blocks': power amp, output, preamp and test it. Then add Reverb and test. Etc.
I used the one tube reverb. Doesn't affect the tone much, so I like it a lot. Whoever came up with this: THANKS!
I am definately not the first who has build a clone with reverb and the loop.
My loop is not in circuit yet but I will use a switch to be able to bypass it. It is a 4x6v6 amp. I will complete it within a few weeks when I get back to Europe for a couple of weeks.
Good luck!

Re: Started an HRM project
I built in my D'lator with a bypass switch. I leave it in all the time now, but it is helpful when testing and intital setup to be able to bypass the FX circuit. On my next build, I will leave the switch out and just use jumpers when doing the initial setup.
I am curious about the reverb. Did you use the Reverb-A-Loop schematic?

Re: Started an HRM project
The reverb a loop schem shows two tubes for the reverb. I used the one tube reverb at
https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.ph ... ube+reverb
I assume that is what Mat is using too...

It saved me a tube and it works fine. Besides in the reverb a loop that Gary drew up, the reverberated signal doesnt go through the loop and the effects in the loop. This was not what I was looking for.
I placed the reverb after the loop. Like a charm!

I got a Twin Iv'e been eyeballing for conversion. Wonder if I could fit verb and a D'lator in it? I think it will take more than 2 circuit boards like I did on my last HRM due to the inny PT. I hate drilling steel

D'Lator- reverb - Trem and a Partridge in a pear tree in that chassis!!Tonegeek wrote:DOH!I got a Twin Iv'e been eyeballing for conversion. Wonder if I could fit verb and a D'lator in it? You have 6 preamp tubes to work with and all the room in the world. Leaving the filters on the back side gives you a ton of space. Go for it.

I have a Super Reverb that I built from a Weber kit. I used it as an experiment for minimul mods into a Dumble. Worked out fairly well by modding the normal channel tube into an OD channel. I left the trem and reverb in place but I may change that as they may be tone suckers.
Re: Started an HRM project
Yeah, if you want caps the size of gas tankers in thereSven wrote:Greetings,

As for the loop resistors. 56k/56k is fine if you have a 440-460V transformer. Any higher, 460V-500V just up the first 56K to 68K.
The plate voltages on the loop tube should be somewhere from 200V to 275V. The exact values are not too important so don't get too hung up about them.
