"High-Gain" mp3's of a ODS?

Post by tsl602000 »

Hi all,

I'm in the middle of restoring a 4x10 AB763 combo that I built a few years ago.
I played this amp untill two years ago, then I used quite a few parts of it to make other amps work, but I decided it was time to have it run again.

Since this amp is worth nothing and I can hack and butcher it all I want without being shot by the blackface police, I've been thinking of modding it.

I've never played a real Dumble, but I do love the FUCHS ODS sound and from what I've read, that amp is Dumble based.

Anyway, what I want to ask is if anyone has some mp3's of a Dumble clone with higher gain settings. All I heard are clean to medium gain mp3's.

Greetings from the Netherlands,

Well, Maybe a Dumble isn't what you want. Dumble's are typically medium gain type amps, not really high gain as we know it. You might want to look into the sloclone forum http://sloclone.yesterdaysrevolt.com/

Here's a youtube clip of d-lite. I know it's not quite facemeltingly hi-gain like a SLO/TW, but it is definately more so than most of the clips you'll find on the forum. And you can see the OD settings are not near maxed. Hope this helps,

Well, I wasn't talking metal gain, it's just that most soundclips found on the web of Dumble's are mostly low gain. I signed up for that forum, but have to wait 'till the administrator approves my registration....
Thanks!

That's bassically the type of gain you'll get from these amps. I have a SLO CLone so I don't consider this hi-gain at all.

I agree. The topic header was somewhat misleading. I was looking for "higher gain sounds".

Here's a higher gain clip of an EVM12L fitted 1x12 combo thats based on an 100W HRM EL34 type circuit.

www.carolannamps.com

For this clip the Volume was set to 5-6, and the gain set to 7-8. There is a little more gain still available if needed.

With all the talk of Ford, Carlton etc. people don't realise that the HRM OD can be a very tight and extremely verstile medium-high gain amp. I even have a customer that uses one with a 7-string !!

To realise a little more gain without tweaking, use the 'jazz' setting on the the clean channel to keep the clean channel from breaking up too much, crank the volume up to 8-9 and with the HRM amp ALWAYS engage the PAB. I have it hard wired for the lead channel. An HRM OD without PAB sounds like ass.

Alan,
Thanks for that!
I went to check out Ed's dumble clone yesterday and after a while I got great tones out of that amp.
