Best wat to modify a bassman 10

Post by sdorer »

Friends,
I've got a bassman 10 and I am wondering what is the best way to modify this circuit to make it a good guitar amp. Any ideas?

I have always wanted to buy a bassman and trick it out bigtime.Lets see who chimes in.Im sure there are a good many mods for that circuit. You know when I was in my 20"s many years ago the local music store had stacks of bassman heads as cheap as 50 bucks a pc..The owner said put a master vol in one and you will have a decent amp.Brand new Les Pauls were 400 also.
The good old days Late 70"s early 80"s.Mikey I have a bunch of Ted Weber books Ill see if he has anything :D

It depends on how far you want to take it and whether or not you want to drill holes in it or not (I would not). If you look at the Super Reverb AB767 Schematic, you are not too far off, minus the reverb and vibrato and of course the bias balance circuit instead of bias voltage adjust.

I would start by bringing the amp to spec first and working on the lead dress and see where you are. The PVC coated wire in the silverface amps is hard to work with. It wants to stay where it is and Fender didn't do a very good job on the lead dress compared to the blackface amps with the cloth covered wire. Leave the blue molded Mallories in there. Change the bias circuit to bias voltage adjust instead of bias balance adjust if you want to. Put some decent tubes in there.

"Guitar amp" is a little subjective. This probably won't make a very good amp for metal without some butchery, but would sound great as a blues amp.

Stick a Boss DS-1 or SD-1 in front of it and have fun.

You could gut it a and turn it into a D style amp like I did..

I miss this one, had to sell it recently.

Good luck on whatever you decide to do with it!

If anyone wants a Bassman 20 - I have one I would be willing to part with. I put in a new filter cap a few months back - but its RIPE for mods. Plenty of room in the chassis for something. I was going to gut it and try to get it up to 100W for Pedal Steel use (because its got a 15" speaker) but I have been too busy.
