Looking good! Sounds like it should be a rockin' platform. Gonna start work on a 2 x 6V6/6L6 soon. I will be following this. What style PI will be going in?
Re: New build complete: CE Silverface 6V6 HRM
Thanks , it will have the Standard PI, I'm not real fond of the BM PI. I love these quad 6V6 setup with Marshall 50W iron, the last one I built based on an early circuit is killer.stelligan wrote:Looking good! Sounds like it should be a rockin' platform. I've laid of a preamp board with the integral HRM circuit, however I'm also thinking of having a HRM PCB made.

Thanks Paul, this one is going along pretty quick. I've done a few of these but I'm always learning and discovering too.
Don't see too many HRM's with snubbers, but I figured what the hey let me try something low, 220pf.

Nice...that baby blue is the coolest color!!!
I've got some NOS and they have THICK leads on them!!
Why the marshall OT? Does the primary match up well with 4x6V6?

Those "baby blue's" are Corning aka RCA and Sylvania branded.amplifiednation wrote:Nice...that baby blue is the coolest color!!!

I got the Marshall tip from Tony way back and the Marshall iron compliments the 6V6 well I think. For a quad of 6V6's a Z range of 2.6K to around 5K could work depending on design parameters. For the Marshall 50W iron, the Z is around 3.4K which works well for a quad of 6V6's, but you could use any Fender 50W iron as well. Actually you can even use your typical 2K, 4-8-16 Twin OT and run it as a 4K, 8-16-32.

Wow, you are a busy guy! This is looking great! I too like the 4x6V6 format. I am in the middle of re-building my 4x6V6 into a #40 to see how that works......always have the option of reverting to the trad 2x6L6s if it doesnt quite work out! Keep up the good work. Its always a pleasure to follow your builds. I plan to post soon when i've figured out how to post pictures etc! BTW love the look of the silver chassis!
Re: New build complete: CE Silverface 6V6 HRM
No, those are other builds are from last year. This year has been slow really with only this build started. Last December I started totally rebuilding the first amp(high voltage high plate skyliner) I built in a CE and I stopped until I could get all the correct taper pots. I recently procured that last 1M pot so now I can finish that one up.Dr d wrote:Wow, you are a busy guy! This is looking great! I too like the 4x6V6 format. I'm going to reuse that first high voltage iron for my final D build, a low plate skyliner with 7581 glass.
Here's link to the other quad 6V6 builds.

+1 on the 7581! I needed to vent the head box with those tubes...they run hot!!!!
What wire are you using? The curvature is nice and appears stranded, but some of the unclipped ends look solid? Teflon? Nice clean work!

Thanks Taylor, generally 20ga silver plated teflon is all I use. The solid looking ends are tinned and ready to be terminated.
