Component Organizers
What's your best method to organize (store) resistors, caps, pots, wire, tubes,transformers...etc?
I have things stuffed into small drawer organizers, cigar boxes, plastic divider boxes, and all across my benches!
I need to find a compact solution to help 5S this workspace.
Ideas?

LOL.
I was out that day!
Sounds like a lot of people are already doing what I am.
There HAS to be a better way!

Re: Component Organizers
It does take some up front work to organize your components, but, similar to developing macros or other automation tools, organization will pay dividends.
My components are stored in several plastic organizer arrays with little drawers. I have one for capacitors, one for resistors - split between 1/2W and power resistors, one for tubes and one for chassis, mounting hdwre, etc. It took a few hours a week over a coupla months with labeling, but when I need a 56K 2W, I know exactly where it is. When I place a new order with digikey or Mouser, I can take a quick look over my stock and order to fill in holes in my inventory.
We have used a similar system in all of the engineering departments in three companies that I have been working in for the last 30 years. This system works well for many users, building a variety of hardware with one person in charge of maintaining stock.
Think about how you use them when you configure your storage system. Do you want to look through boxes, bags, and envelopes or do you want to walk over and select a component?
It's up front time vs. ease in locating a component as you build, IMO. There's more than one right answer...

Yep, a little more up front cost of doing a component drawer system but well worth the investment. Besides, when you are alone at your bench in the late hours of the evening, you can gloat smugly with narrowed eyes and steepled fingers when all of your drawers stand at neat attention each with their own labelSuper_Reverb wrote:It's up front time vs. ease in locating a component as you build, IMO. I like the Akro-Mils line of component boxes:

When your drawers stand at attention, it's time to do laundry!

I wish I had a rhyme for every pickle I've had.
Heavens, an unused PI input !
Re: Component Organizers
Or for 1/2 ton of storage there is the Storage-Go-Around.
I was afraid of pricing it.
