That looked like it would have been fun.

When Wishbone Ash first did gigs in the states, early-mid 70's,
I had seen them at least a half dozen times at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago.

Great band, tunes, and playing.

Andy inspired me to get an Ibanez Flying V, that I wish I still had.
The guitar was nearly an exact copy of the Gibby... set neck and everything.

Fond memories there.
Mike

Jim Weider is great. We have his instructional rockabilly video, Volume 1 on VCR. The amp that he was playing through when he was doing his Paul Burleson / Johnny Burnett Trio segment was an old Fender Tweed Super. Jim made the statement, "Well, this amp keeps my ears ringing. . ." So while we had built some Champs, Princetons, Deluxes, and Bassman Tweeds, we had never done a Super. We started looking for a layout. We found a very interesting layout that was different from all the General Electric status-quo that Leo was using. It was for a 1947 Dual Professional / Super Amp. It was when they still used the 6SL7 octal preamp tubes, and we had quite a few of these NOS tubes laying around. We found a layout that we liked through Ted Weber. The schematic was a little deceptive, because it said 6NP's for the octal preamp tubes. So when we lit it off we stuck in 6SN7's. We / my girlfriend and me / looked at each other and said that it was a neat sound but not that powerful. But I always test amps and speakers and guitars on my girlfriend. She is a full partner in crime in this venture. It was the next day that I kind of did a little research and realized that I need to use the 6SL7's instead, and that certainly tore the rag off the bush. This thing was blistering - oooooooozing with groove. It's a super-amazing amp and circuit. It's only got 2 volume knobs and 1 tone knob with a pair of 6L6's powering it. (I'm sure Ken Fischer was familiar with this extremely simple circuit.) The volume knobs have a very even progression into volume, and the amp holds a lot of headroom up to 5. When you do crank it up all the way, it was pretty smoking with my '81 LP Deluxe. I later stumbled onto a picture of Billy Gibbons posing with 8 of these in the 2x12 V-front cabinets. Needless to say, I've actually been building a lot of the older-style amps using these big octal preamp tubes for the big sound. Sovtek and a couple of other tube manufacturers are making these tubes again, so if you have never built one of these, you are really missing out. To tie all this back to Jim Weider, it was his first remark about the Super he was playing that started us ramblin' on this little adventure.

I get great results with a Fender 5b6 octal Bassman circuit, love that octal preamp tone.

Dude, you've got me totally out-geeked! That looks like a Bogen Challenger 33. I have 3 of those. 1 leave stock as a reference, and it is a totally smoking rig. 1 I turned into a Gibson EH150, like out of Tito Zotolla's book. And I have 1 right now, that I'm possibly going to do a Trainwreck with. But I am currently building a 56F-A Bassman using octals. I'll have to look for that schematic that you're using. Right now I'm just wiring the octals in the same way as the Bassman and hoping that the cathode follower and phase inverter will work out. We're fairly new to the Amp Garage, but we've got a lot of amps and projects going. This Bassman that I'm building is a re-do job from someone's old DeVille chassis and 4x10 cab that came my way.

Thanks for your note!

P.S. My girlfriend is wondering how you attached more than 1 picture. . .

Hello! This is our "Bogen-stein", the Gibson EH 150. I don't think we've taken a picture of the under side of this amp.

We are still trying to figure out how to do more than 1 attachment per message. We've tried the "add attachment" button, and that just kicks us out and we have to sign in again. (Just a computer glitch?)

Thanks.
